Bro. Joshua Iginla blesses widow, orphans, others with N12m, house and scholarship

Bro. Joshua Iginla blesses widow, orphans, others with N12m, house and scholarship

Abuja-based and pastor of Champions Royal Assembly, Bro. Joshua Iginla, lived up to his tradition of giving succour to the less-privileged during yet another birthday celebration.  A widow, orphans some dwarfs and the visually impaired recently left his service in smiles after he touched their lives in no small way.

Mrs. Grace Danladi, the widow who lives in Nasarawa State with her five kids, having lost her husband, Mr. Sani Danladi to a chronic disease six years ago, got N1 million and a plot of land in the City of Wonders from the man of God. A three-bedroom flat apartment was to be built and furnished for her.

The church met her and her children through its outreach. At the time her husband died, her last child was one month old and since the demise of her husband, she has been finding it difficult to finance the children’s needs through school and also feed them. She washes clothes as a vocation and earns a paltry N3,000 from this every month. Her five children also attracted the sympathy from the popular clergy who placed them on scholarship up to the university level.

Also, two orphans, 19-year-old Nancy and Mary Disi were given hope again during the service and blessed with N300,000 each. Mary who lives in Nasarawa State lost her parents in 2012 while Nancy lost hers at a very tender age of five. Both had hitherto struggled to eat, falling victims along the line to bad elements who took advantage of them. They sadly had earlier dropped out of school due to lack of funds. They were given scholarships by the man of God and a decent accommodation.

The life-touching gesture was also extended some 20 dwarfs who received the sum of N150,000 each, 20 visually impaired people, each of who also received N150,000 and a Nollywood producer, Korede who was blessed with N2 million as a support. Most of the beneficiaries were Muslims.

Bro. Iginla, during the service revealed that he had the resources to acquire a private jet but unlike other men of God, he decided to use it to assist the needy in the society, as that was the number one mandate God gave to him.

Another beneficiary include an aged couple, Mr. and Mrs. Dabby Shakari, married for over 80 years, who were part of the beneficiaries said they had been living in abject poverty and were dejected. Life to them had been a twinkle and at a point, hopelessness seemed to have set in because of their continuous suffering. Their condition made them to wonder how life treated them with so much cruelty. At the occasion, the man of God instantly blessed them with a cash of N1 million and promised to build and furnish a befitting house for them within the next two months. Meanwhile, he has already concluded arrangement to get a decent accommodation for them immediately while the house is being built. What’s more, the man of God with a large heart also placed them on a salary for life while promising to change their wardrobe.

During his birthday celebration last year, the pastor with a large heart had showered over N23 million on over 100 widows who are members of his church to alleviate their suffering. As he always says, he is devoted to empowering the vulnerable particularly the widows, orphans and the less privileged in the society without minding their religion, tribe or sectional inclination.

Oprah Winfrey now has a museum exhibition in honor of her contributions to American culture and history

Oprah Winfrey now has a museum exhibition in honor of her contributions to American culture and history

Over the years, Oprah Winfrey has become a force to reckon with in the media, not just because of her talent as a daytime television host, but also because of her other contributions to the American culture.

The media entrepreneur launched literary careers, convened difficult conversations about race and gender, and also made huge donations to support charities dear to her heart. As a result of her immense contribution in shaping America, the National Museum of African American History and Culture will open a new exhibit on Friday titled "Watching Oprah: The Oprah Winfrey Show and American Culture".

The exhibition will feature video clips, interview segments, movie costumes, and personal photographs and journals to explore what has influenced Winfrey and how her work has shaped America.
Speaking about the exhibition, museum director Lonnie G. Bunch III said: "What’s interesting is the same way America thought about Walter Cronkite — you could trust Walter Cronkite and his opinion — they trust Oprah. An African American woman becomes the person America turns to."
Winfrey donated $21 million to the $540 million museum, making her its largest individual benefactor (its theater is named in her honor). But Bunch said her role as benefactor did not influence the exhibition.
"We made sure there was a bright line, that this was done by the museum and museum scholars," he said. "The fundraising was not through Oprah’s people."
The exhibition will open on Friday and run through June 2019. Among the artifacts included in the exhibition is a page from the 1971 yearbook from East Nashville High School, highlighting Winfrey’s participation in student government during her senior year there. A red suit designed by Celine and worn by Winfrey during her famous Sept. 13, 2004, car giveaway stunt, in which she gave every member of her studio audience a new Pontiac sedan, will also feature in the exhibition.

Jordan's Prime Minister, Hani Mulki resigns over mass protests

Jordan

Jordan’s Prime Minister Hani Mulki has submitted his resignation to King Abdullah today following widespread anger over economic policies that have sparked the largest protests in several years and dozens of arrests.

Thousands of Jordanians took to the streets of the capital Amman and main provincial towns again on Sunday, extending days of protests that have shaken Jordan to its brink.

Police chief Major General Fadel al-Hamoud said security forces had detained 60 people for breaking the law during the protests and 42 security force members had been injured, but protests remained under control.

“Rest assured, Jordan is a safe and secure country, and things are under control,” said Major General Hussein Hawatmeh, head of the Gendarmerie security department, appearing along with Hamoud at a news conference.

Public anger has grown over government policies since a steep general sales tax hike earlier this year and the abolition of bread subsidies, both measures driven by the International Monetary Fund.

Political sources earlier said Abdullah had summoned Mulki for an audience in the king’s palace.  In a sign the tax hikes could be shelved, the Petra news agency, citing the speaker of parliament, said lawmakers were on course to ask the king’s permission to hold an exceptional session, with a majority demanding the changes be withdrawn.

How China took 700 million people out of poverty - Femi Adesina writes

How China took 700 million people out of poverty - Femi Adesina writes

President Buhari's special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina who is currently in China has just shared how the Asian country took 700 million of its people out of poverty.

According to Adesina, 'in the 1950s-1970s, China was just like Nigeria. Its situation was just like the ashes from which President Muhammadu Buhari is trying to take the country from today. No electricity, the best form of transportation on the waters were rafts, take-home pay could not take the workers home, and the people were in distress, forlorn and disconsolate. No clean water for domestic use, the country could barely feed its burgeoning population, social welfare was almost nil. It was the Hobbesian state of nature. Life was nasty, brutish and short'.

Read his full piece below...
The ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) has a target by 2020: to ensure that what is called 'population poverty' is eradicated in the country of 1.3 billion people. And it means business, as between 1978 when the country embarked on reforms, and now, over 700 million people have been taken out of grinding poverty.

Bidding farewell to poverty is not just a pie in the sky for China, which can only be eyed longingly, but which the mouth will never touch. It is putting its money where its mouth is, with the political leadership working strenuously for the people.

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail, goes a popular saying. And China is planning, and scrupulously so. It is currently in the 13th cycle of its 5-yearly development plan, which is akin to a roadmap for the country. The goal by 2020 is eradication of crippling poverty.

"Since the reform and opening up, we have carried out large-scale poverty alleviation and development policies, and have successfully lifted 700 million rural people out of poverty," Professor Li Ping of the Institute of Quantitative and Technical Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told us at the ongoing Seminar for National Governance for Presidential Advisers of Developing Countries in Beijing. He added: "Such great achievements add a glorious chapter in the history of anti-poverty. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, we have included the poverty alleviation and development work into the 'four comprehensive' strategic scheme as the focus of efforts to achieve the first centenary goal."

In the 1950s-1970s, China was just like Nigeria. Life was nasty, brutish and short.

Professor HE Wenping of Institute of West African and Asian Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences describes what used to subsist thus: "China, which is now the world's second biggest economy, used to be very poor. Before you could get married as a man then, you must get three things; a bicycle, which you would ride with your wife, a television set (a whole community may have just one, which they would all gather to watch in an open place), and a sewing machine. That would be used to sew clothes worn by the family."

Prof Wenping was not talking of medieval times, but of just four decades ago. And then, the leadership caught a vision. It decided to embark on reforms under President Deng Xiaoping, opened up to the rest of the world, and articulated political and economic policies, which have within 40 years (this year) launched China into the second biggest economy worldwide, after the United States of America.

How did China do it?
Presenting a paper titled 'China's Political System and Xi Jinping's Ideas on Governance,' Prof Wenping submitted: ""Deng Xiaoping pointed out in 1987 that there are three criteria to judge whether or not a political system or policy is suitable or correct for a country, namely; is it beneficial for political stability, beneficial for economic development, and beneficial for the improvement of people's living standard? If they do, that is a good system and policy. Otherwise, it is not good at all."

In other words, China had to forge a homegrown political and economic system that was good for its own people. It didn't copy lock, stock and barrel from other countries far ahead. It recognized that economic development and political stability were intertwined.

President Jinping has built on the vision of his forebears, and articulated ideas on governance, which include; keeping the Chinese Dream alive through hard work and innovation, realizing youthful dreams, and connecting Chinese dreams with the rest of the world by sharing the benefit with other countries.

Others include combating corruption, enhancing China's cultural soft power by cultivating and disseminating the core socialist values, and peaceful diplomacy with the rest of the world.

On the need for anti-corruption war, Prof Huang Xiaoyong, also of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, posited: "We will not stop. We will always do it. That's the way to ensure fairness in our society. It is difficult to eliminate corruption altogether, but we must never allow it to spin out of control. It destabilizes society and communities. Development is thus affected."

True. Where are the billions of dollars Nigeria made from oil when the commodity sold at $100 dollars and above per barrel? Vanished! Utterly transmuted. No wonder Nigerians will never allow those who had vandalized the public treasury to return to power, irrespective of half-hearted apologies they've rendered. The pathway to sustainable development is the one being trod by President Buhari, and never again will Nigerians entrust the public treasury to rapacious people.

China has identified five development concepts to battle poverty, which I believe are useful to Nigeria. Ensure that innovation and development are the driving forces, solve the problem of unbalanced development, solve the problem of harmony between man and nature (preserve the environment), ensure there is internal and external linkage in development, solve the problem of social equity and justice.

Prof Li Ping concluded his presentation this way: "Making people receive more education is the fundamental way to tackle the issues of chronic poverty and poverty passed from generation to generation."

Can anybody disagree?
The poverty battle is a war Nigeria must win. It has enough endowments for it. But it is not by returning to the immediate infamous past.

N11.5Billion Fraud: Alao Akala, two others fail to get application for 'stay'

N11.5Billion Fraud: Alao Akala, two others fail to get application for

Justice M. L. Owolabi of the Oyo State High Court 15 sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan on Monday, June 4, 2018 refused and dismissed an application for stay of proceedings, pending the outcome of an appeal at the Supreme Court by a former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Christopher Alao-Akala and the Chief Executive Officer of Pentagon Consults, Olufemi Ademola Babalola.

In his ruling, Justice Owolabi said “stay of proceedings will do more damage to the case which has been pending since 2011 and ordered the prosecution to assemble all its witnesses at the next date”.

Alao-Akala alongside the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Hosea Ayoola Agboola and a contractor and Chief Executive Officer of Pentagon Consults, Mr Olufemi Ademola Babalola are standing trial on offences bordering on alleged criminal  conspiracy and fraudulent practices to the tune of N11.5 billion.

They were earlier arraigned on an11-counts charge and they all pleaded not guilty to each count of charge preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

However, after arraignment, their trial was stalled following their applications to stay further proceedings/trial pending the determination of their appeals at the Supreme Court by counsel to the first and third defendants, A.O. Afolabi (SAN) and A. Ogunwole (SAN) respectively filed on April 9, 2018.

Their motions were however opposed by the Prosecuting Counsel, Dr. Ben Ubi, relying on his written submissions on points of law and he urged the court to refuse the applications and rather order for accelerated hearing of the case in accordance with the spirit and intendment of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Oyo State, 2016 and Section 19(2)(b) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(Establishment) Act, 2004.
.
.
The case was therefore adjourned to the 29th June and 3rd July, 2018 for trial.

It appears Doris and Daniel have resolved to become friendly exes and remain cordial for the love of their child, David.
Doris and Daniel, who met on set of the Daniel-directed Omo Jaiye Jaiye in 2006, welcomed a baby boy together in April 2008 before having a bitter split in 2010.
They had a rocky relationship after Daniel moved on to fellow actress, Stella Damasus. It was alleged at the time that Daniel had seized their son and stopped Doris from seeing the boy.
With this picture, it looks like all the bitterness is now a thing of the past. Daniel shared the photo on IG this evening and wrote
''Spent the entire weekend buried in a studio editing but I had to come up for air for THIS.
Don't believe everything you read on blogs. They've gotta stay sensational to make a dollar. ??. It’s all good in the Hood''.

Wife drags husband to court after he allowed an Alfa to sleep with her 3 days for his business to become successful

Wife drags husband to court after he allowed an Alfa to sleep with her 3 days for his business to become successful

A woman went to an Igando customary court in Lagos seeking dissolution of her 4-year-old marriage and accusing her husband of conspiring with an Islamic cleric to sleep with her for 3 days in order for his business to become successful.
Mrs Musilimotu Olashuyi, 48, and her husband, Gbenga Olashuyi, 55, who have a child together, had earlier approached the court, seeking to end her marriage, claiming that an Alfa made love to her with her husband’s approval.
Narrating the incident, Musilimotu told the court:
Actually, my husband got to know the Alfa through me because I always go to his mosque to pray.
When he told me that my husband business is not moving fine, I brought him home to meet my husband. Before I know what was happening, my husband conspired with him to use me for money ritual. It was with my husband’s consent that the Alfa had sexual intercourse with me for three days.
After the incident, I started getting sick and getting emaciating and I told people around me what happened which led to the arrest of the cleric and my husband ran away. My husband resurfaced at the station after the cleric brought a remedy to cure me.
Musilimotu added that her husband threw her belongings out of their matrimonial home in her absence during which over N800,000 she kept in her boxes were stolen. She also accused him of refusing to pay back the loan she collected on his behalf in which she stood as a guarantor. She begged the court to dissolve the marriage as she was no longer in love with her husband.
But her husband, Gbenga Olashuyi denied the allegations. He told the court that his wife and her lover, the cleric, persuaded him to buy a coffin for money ritual and that gave the cleric access to his home and wife.
He said:
My wife brought the Alfa home, he told me that God revealed to him that my business was collapsing, that he will make some rites, I agreed because truly my business was not moving well. Since that day my wife has been coming home with the cleric with different objects and concoction for me to drink and bath with which I used.
Later the cleric asked me to bring N800, 000 to buy some items for another rite. He also told me to buy a casket for him to make ritual money for me that I will put it in a separate room where nobody will enter except me. My wife begged me to comply with the Alfa’s request which I decline.

Olashuyi went on to accuse his wife of infidelity. He added that the cleric usually comes to their home to make love to his wife on their matrimonial bed.

I got to know that the cleric was sleeping with my wife in our room when Musilimotu brought the police to arrest him for using charm on her to rape her.
The cleric told the police that he never hypnotised my wife to rape, claiming it was with her consent he made love to her on those three occasions.

As a result of her infidelity, Olashuyi said he packed his wife's belongings out of his house after giving her three months notice, yet she refused to pack out. He asked the court to dissolve his marriage, stating that he was no longer interested and does not love his wife anymore.
Following the intervention of the court, presided over by Mr Akin Akinniyi, and the couple’s families, they were reconciled. The wife then wrote a withdrawal letter to the court and told them that they would work to resolve their differences.
Akinniyi, while striking out the case, admonished the couple to maintain peace and to continue to live in love and harmony.
Since the court was able to reconcile the couple through thorough counseling, I urged both of you to go home and live in peace and love," Akinniyi said.

The Instagram user had a problem with the fact that Toyin's son is allowed to wear earrings. This, she said, is a sign that the boy will not grow up well. So, Toyin went digging around the woman's page for any photo with which to hit back at her and she found an inappropriate photo of the woman's son.
