Federal judge rules that President Trump is in violation of the Constitution when he blocks users on Twitter

Federal judge rules?that President Trump is in violation of the Constitution when he blocks users on Twitter

On Wednesday, a federal judge in New York ruled that President Trump is in violation of the Constitution when he blocks users on Twitter.

In her ruling, Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald wrote that "no government official including the President is above the law, and all government officials are presumed to follow the law as has been declared. We hold that portions of the @realDonaldTrump account the 'interactive space' where Twitter users may directly engage with the content of the President's tweets are properly analyzed under the "'public forum' doctrines set forth by the Supreme Court, that such space is a designated public forum, and that the blocking of the plaintiffs based on their political speech constitutes viewpoint discrimination that violates the First Amendment".

The Knight Institute, which filed the suit on behalf of several individuals who have been blocked by Trump, applauded the decision saying "we're pleased with the court's decision, which reflects a careful application of core First Amendment principles to government censorship on a new communications platform. The President's practice of blocking critics on Twitter is pernicious and unconstitutional, and we hope this ruling will bring it to an end."

The Justice Department defended Trump's Twitter activity, contending that muting is within the president's "associational freedoms." He may be president, the DOJ argued, but Trump still maintains a right to decide who he spends time with on the social media platform.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and former White House communications director Hope Hicks, both of whom were named in the suit, were dismissed as defendants. A Justice Department spokeswoman said "We respectfully disagree with the court's decision and are considering our next steps."

Three Ebola patients escape quarantine in Congo, two found dead a day later

Three Ebola patients escape quarantine in Congo, two found dead a day later

Three patients infected with the deadly Ebola virus escaped from a hospital holding them in a quarantine station in Mbandaka, Congo.
Two of the patients got out on Monday but were found dead a day later, said Henri Gray, the head of  (MSF) mission in the city.
Another left on Saturday, but was found alive the same day and is now under observation, Gray added.
"This is a hospital. It's not a prison. We can't lock everything," he said.
The report came as the World Health Organization warned that the fight to stop Democratic Republic of Congo's ninth confirmed outbreak of the hemorrhagic fever had reached a critical point.
"The next few weeks will really tell if this outbreak is going to expand to urban areas or if we're going to be able to keep it under control," WHO's emergency response chief Peter Salama told ministers and diplomats in Geneva.
"We're on the epidemiological knife edge of this response," he added at the U.N. body's annual assembly.
Health officials are particularly concerned by the disease's presence in Mbandaka, a crowded trading hub upstream from Congo's capital, Kinshasa, a city of some 10 million people. The river also runs along the border with the Republic of Congo.
The outbreak, which was first spotted near the town of Bikoro, about 100 km (60 miles) south of the city, is believed to have killed at least 27 people so far.
Health workers have drawn up a list of 628 people who have had contact with known cases who will need to be vaccinated.
"It's really the detective work of epidemiology that will make or break the response to this outbreak," Salama said.

Kidnapper caught after she stole a baby at Mile 12 market

Kidnapper caught after she stole a baby at Mile 12 market

A kidnapper has been arrested as she attempted to escape after stealing a baby in Mile 12 market.
2-year-old Miss Ramudantu Matimu was with her mum at the Yam market in Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos, on May 22, 2018, when Elizabeth Ibezim took her while her mother wasn't looking.

The mother of the child, who is a trader, was busy selling her wares and had no idea her child had been taken. By the time she noticed, she became frantic and a search party was immediately organized to help her find the child.
Fortunately, the child's mother, who was in a near state of hysteria, sighted her child strapped to Elizabeth's back. Elizabeth was trying to board a commercial vehicle at Under-the- bridge bus stop Ketu, a reasonable distance from where the child was taken, and the desperate mother rushed the suspect and struggled to collect her child from her. At this point, the mother raised alarm and people surrounded the suspect. But for the timely intervention of a police team stationed strategically near the market to provide security, the woman would have been lynched.
The suspect has been taken into custody and the case is currently under investigation at the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command.
