"I wouldn’t mind my kids bearing their mother’s surname and nativity," Nigerian male feminist says and gives reasons

"I wouldn?t mind my kids bearing their mother?s surname and nativity," Nigerian male feminist says and gives reasons

A Nigerian man has said he wouldn't mind his kids bearing their mother's surname and choosing her place of origin as theirs.
Chukwuebuka Nnaemeka Chukwuemeka, who identifies as feminist, said this decision isn't about feminism, even though many people may think it is. He explained that he has always preferred to identify as an indigene of his mother's hometown, for reasons which he stated in his post. He also added that as a banker, he mentioned his mother's hometown and not his father's and it worked well for him.

He said his wife will be free to retain her surname after marriage, and also to give their children her name and even make her hometown theirs. He went on to reveal that he is bearing his grandfather's name, not his father's and he doesn't mind whose surname his children bear or which town they choose to identify with.
Chukwuebuka, an Indigene of Anambra state, is an author and a language editor at Oxford University Press. He lives in Hamburg, Germany.
He wrote on Facebook:
When I told a friend that I wouldn’t mind my kids bearing their mother’s surname and nativity, he thought it was one of my numerous jokes. But I was serious.
As I tried to give him my reasons for having such inclination, he thought it was one of my feminist sermons. But it wasn’t about feminism.
Most of my ideas about fairness and freedom stem from my personal idiosyncracies. I am easily given to the advancement of free-thinking and liberty, one that does not infringe on another man’s rights and peace. Perhaps this is the reason I easily speak up for feminism, homosexuals and irreligious folks.
Yes, my wife would be free to bear her surname, register my kids’ names with her surname and even make her native town that of my kids’. This is not about feminism. (If feminism preaches such cause, then it is by accident that our thoughts align.) Rather, this is about me, who I am, the way I see life—a NO Big deal.
For instance, I have always preferred to identify ?k?z? (corrupted as Awkuzu), my mum’s town, as my native town to whoever that asks. This was not to push a feminist cause, but to avoid unnecessary cynical questions I get from some people when I tell them I am from ?m?eri (popularly corrupted as ?m?leri) because of the town’s history of war and violence with some of her neighbours, especially Ag?leri and ?m??ba Anam.
As a banker, I mentioned ?k?z? instead of ?m?eri as my home town. And it worked for me, until Dad challenged me to rise to the task of clearing to the world the hidden virtues of his townsmen and be the voice to correct those narratives I do not want to be associated with. I agreed with him. And I am happy he was able to understand that I could decide to change my nativity to that of my maternal home based on my personal circumstances.
Culturalists may argue for order. But in an advanced world, these things work perfectly with digitalized administrative documentations. When my kids become adults, they should be able to denounce ?m?eri and identify Ak?kwa or Ihiala or Mbaise or wherever their mother hails from as their native town. The district commissioners will file their registration. And that’s it. In fact, as long as one is an Igbo and could prove it through their birth certificate, this shouldn’t be a big deal in an ideal Igbo nation.
I do not think it is by having my kids bear my name that will make my name live forever. In fact, I don’t intend to change my surname from Chukwuemeka (my grandfather) to Nnaemeka (my father). Yet, who knows Chukwuemeka!
If my kids decide to bear Chukwuebuka as their surname, that’s their business, I won’t stop them. I only hope that by the time they start reading and writing, my book would have been ready, so that they’d read about their father’s ideas, and realise that their individual choice is more important than whatever culture or religion prescribes.

After he shared his post, social media users who could relate to his point of view commented.
"I once wrote a poem. One of the lines says. our kids can have your surname after all it does sound better'. The slay queen later left and I took yaba left too," Nwankwo Obiorah Everest wrote.
Chukwuemeka Peter Nnaike wrote: "As long as it isn't an English name, I have no problem with whatever name they choose as their surname."

Teenage girl killed seconds after taking off seatbelt to take a selfie

Teenage girl killed seconds after taking off seatbelt to take a selfie

A teenager died in an accident seconds after she took off her seatbelt to take a selfie. As a result, her grieving parents are launching a campaign to convince people to keep their belts on at all times.

Kailee Mills, 16, was with three friends in a car near her home in Texas, heading out to a  Halloween party last October, when the car crashed and rolled over.

The other three teenagers, who had their seatbelts on, survived. But Kailee, a "happy, bubbly and outgoing" girl, who was in the back seat of the car, didn't make it.
"We know if she had her seatbelt on, she'd still be here," her father, David said.

Her parents say although she normally followed the law in wearing her belt, she unfastened it to take a selfie with her friend in Spring, near Houston, Texas.
Wendy Mills, Kailee's mother, said: "All I kept saying was, 'It's not real, it's not real’."
"She had a laugh that was unique and the laugh alone made you smile, and she loved to make people smile," Ms Mills told the Fox 26 news station.
Now the couple have launched the Kailee Mills Foundation, which works to provide stickers for car windows and motorbike helmets across the region to remind drivers and passengers to buckle up. They are also joining the Texas Department of Transportation for an awareness drive, using the slogan "Click it or ticket".

"We just hope no one else has to deal with this," Mr Mills told Eyewitness News on ABC13.
"It doesn't matter if you're going a mile or 100 miles. Everyone always questions 'Why? Why did this happen?' And we're never going to know the answer to that but we know we can do something positive, and I think that's what she would want us to do."
Kailee has been described as a fun, lively teenager of whom any parent would be proud. She was an honor student with a 4.3 GPA, enjoyed cheerleading and playing volleyball.

American rapper, G-Eazy, has apologized to fans following his conviction for assault and drug possession in Sweden last Thursday.
The 28-year-old rapper was arrested in Stockholm and charged with “assaulting an officer, violent resistance, and illegal drug possession”.

G-Eazy whose real name is Gerald Gillum was convicted of assault, drug possession and resisting arrest following a nightclub brawl in Stockholm in the early hours of Thursday morning.
He was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay 80,000 krona (about $9,000) for his crimes, as well as 6,500 krona (about $810) restitution to the security guard he was accused of assaulting, a courtroom source told People.

Mother of teenager shot dead in London says "please let my son be the last"

Pretana Morgan, whose son was killed in London on Saturday, April 5, has made a tearful plea that her son's killing should be the last fatal shooting.
A wave of violence has been sweeping through London since last year, but it's gotten worse this year. The latest gun violence, which happened after Morgan's son was killed, left two other teenage boys in hospital after they were shot in broad daylight in London.

After 17-year-old Rhyhiem Ainsworth Barton was shot and killed on Saturday, his mother Pretana Morgan pleaded for the violence to stop.
She said: "Children, please let my son be the last."

Rhyhiem was shot just after 6pm on Saturday. Paramedics and police were called to reports of gunshots on Cooks Road in Southwark, and found Rhyhiem on nearby Warham Street. The Metropolitan Police said officers had not yet made any arrests in connection with Rhyhiem’s shooting.
Mourning her son, Ms Morgan told reporters she "couldn't have asked for a better son". She revealed that Rhyhiem had been an aspiring architect who was "trying to make a difference" by learning to work with children.
"My son was a very handsome boy. He's got so much potential," said Ms Morgan.  "My son's a good boy."
"Let my son be the last and be an example to everyone," she added.  "Just let it stop. What must be, must be."
She added: "It's not about race, it's not about nation, it's not about culture. Nothing. It's just a human race. "Just one human race. So children, please let my son be the last."
Following the death, Labour MP David Lammy tweeted: "Enough. Enough. My heart goes out to families grieving children and teenagers. So many shattered lives, families and communities."
Police have now revealed that extra patrols will be working on bank holiday Monday to keep London streets safe.
Rhyhiem’s death means that police have investigated more than 60 murders in London so far in 2018. In 2017, 116 murders were recorded in London.

ISIS terrorists threaten to behead President Trump in new propaganda poster about 'war' with the U.S.

ISIS terrorists threaten to behead President Trump in new propaganda poster about

ISIS terrorists have yet again threatened to launch terror attacks in the United States, in a new propaganda poster, which also shows  President Donald Trump about to be beheaded.
In the poster released by the terror group, the US president is seen on his knees in an orange jumpsuit with an ISIS fighter about to slash his throat, while the city of New York burns in the background.

According to reports, the poster, entitled 'Be Patient America', was distributed on encrypted messaging app Telegram by pro-ISIS media.
The horrifying image also carries a note saying: 'It warns the U.S. that 'war is not over, by the permission of Allah, you will be defeated'.
'Be patient America, war is not over yet and you have not won. By the permission of Allah you will be defeated, just wait for it. Our swords are not broken, our arms are not tired, our passion did not fade away and we did not feel bored or weak!'

'But, by the grace of Allah we are much more stronger than we have been in the beginning of your war. With each passing day, we become stronger by the grace of Allah, and you become weaker. '
'We will walk with steady steps, but you are floundering in Trump's failed plan.'
This is not the first time the ISIS are sending threat to the President, two weeks ago a poster was released depicting Trump's execution with the city of Seattle in flames as a backdrop.
