Saraki saves President Buhari from possible Impeachment

The senate president, Bukola Saraki and the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Ibn Bala Na’allah today saved President Buhari from possible impeachment.
An Impeachment motion against President Buhari raised by Senator Matthew Urhoghide and seconded by Senator Chukwuka Utazi suffered set back as the senate president referred the motion to Judiciary and Legal Committee for advice based on the submission of Senator Na’allah.

The senators moved the motion because the President did not seek the National Assembly's approval before the withdrawal of the $496 million used for the purchase of aircraft from the United States.

Pioneer chief of UNECA, Adebayo Adedeji has died

Pioneer chief of UNECA,?Adebayo Adedeji has died

Pioneer Executive Director of the Addis Ababa based United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and undersecretary general of the UN, Prof Adebayo Adedeji, is dead.

He died in Lagos at the age 87 after a protracted illness.

He was born in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State on 21 December 1930. His death, in the late hours of Wednesday, was announced by a family member who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria.

After obtaining B.Sc and PhD in Economics at London School of Economics and an MPA from Harvard University, Adedeji joined the University of Ife, where he became a professor of economics at the age of 36. Adedeji was the ECA boss between 1975 -1978, after which he was appointed the UN Undersecretary general. He remained in the ECA post until 1991.

One of Africa’s foremost proponents of regional integration, Adedeji was Nigeria’s post-civil federal commissioner for economic development and reconstruction, from 1971. He played key roles in the establishment of the Economic Commission for West Africa States (ECOWAS). He also inspired the formation of the National Youth Service Corps in 1973 and became the pioneer Chairman.

It was at the ECA that Adedeji was to make most significant impact on regional integration on the continent. Beside ECOWAS, Adedeji actively promoted the creation of other regional groupings, including the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), which later became the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). Before his death, Adedeji was the director of the African Centre for Development and Strategic Studies, a think-tank NGO based in his hometown, Ijebu Ode, Ogun, Nigeria.

The University of London icon would also be remembered for his contributions to Africa’s economic recovery, some of which was encapsulated in his major address on “The History and Prospects for Regional Integration in Africa”. Adedeji was also a frontline member of his Ijebu-Ode community and a close associate of Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebu land. He was the Asiwaju of Ijebuland(leader) and Bobajiro of the Awujale(chief adviser to the monarch) as well.

The chair of Sikiru Adetona professorial seat at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Prof Ayo Olukotun, expressed shock at the death of Adedeji.  Olukotun is also the Secretary General of the International Relations Society of Nigeria. “Though elderly, Adedeji would be greatly missed. We, in the international relation society, would have been happier, if he had stayed on for a while longer. His death is a rude shock to us. We would have been happier to have him around to influence discussions on alternative strategy, which he championed during his iconic stint at the ECA. His contribution to alternative to Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) cannot be forgotten. His effort led to adoption of the alternatives by many African countries.  “Adedeji would still have been very relevant today as the continent still searches for economic redirection,” Olukotun said

'He could not go on any longer' - Avicii's family implies he died from apparent suicide

Popular Swedish DJ and musician, Avicii died suddenly last Friday and his family has released a second statement that implies he committed suicide.
The statement seemingly offers more insight into the DJ's cause of death. Though the cause of the DJ's death has not been made public, his parents said Thursday that Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, "was not made for the machinery he ended up in".

Young Avicii with his mum who is an actress

The statement issued by his family reads:
Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most—music.

He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight.
Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive. We love you, Your family.
Avicii announced in 2016 that he will retire from touring because of the exhausting lifestyle that comes with it. He wrote on social media that stress, anxiety, and illness were factors in his decision. He said walking away was tough but he needed to pursue other interests.
Also in a documentary about his life titled 'Avicii: True stories, the DJ himself can be heard saying he is "going to die" if he does not stop performing, and that he has told his management this "so many times".

The recent documentary about his life shed light on the extreme pressure he was under, performing 320 shows in a single year. In the documentary, Avicii, a self-confessed introvert, speaks frequently about using alcohol as a crutch to be able to perform, drinking every day during his hectic tour, and to help him with his crippling anxiety and stress. At the age of 21 he was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis - a potentially life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas - due in part to excessive drinking.
He was found dead in Muscat, Oman, last week.

FFK berates Dino Melaye for jumping off police vehicle in protest, says'' Buhari's tyranny must not push you to sit on the floor and lament like a tout'

FFK berates Dino Melaye for jumping off police vehicle in protest, says

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has berated Dino Melaye for jumping off a police van and threatening to kill himself so he can put the police officers in trouble.

In a post he share on his IG page, FFK said the tyranny of the Buhari led government should not push anyone to the extent they seat on the floor and begin to lament like touts. Read what he wrote below
A Senator of the Federal Republic should not behave like this: not even an APC one. This is not honor. This is not class. This is not strength.

I deplore what Buhari is doing to all those that oppose him, including those that put him in power like my aburo Senator Dino Melaye, but we must face our collective oppressors with dignity, strength and courage.
The tyranny of Buhari must not push us to this state where we sit on the floor in the street and scream, shout and lament like touts.

I was arrested numerous times by the security agencies, I was incarcerated for a total of 60 days and some of those days were in terror cells with Boko Haram suspects and convicts.

I never jumped out of a moving vehicle in an attempt to escape and I never threatened to "kill myself" and "put everyone in trouble". In this struggle fear of torture, death or jail has no place because our enemies are not God.
Their time will soon come to an end and in the end we shall prevail. We must confront them with self-respect, dignity, strength and courage.
Dark may be the night but joy comes in the morning! My prayers are with Dino and his family at this trying time.

‘Transhumanist’ has gone through hundreds of body modifications to evolve with technology and time (photos)

?Transhumanist? has gone through hundreds of body modifications to evolve with technology and time (photos)

A man who identifies as a "transhumanist" has had more than 100 modifications done to his body so as to "evolve with technology and time".
Russ Foxx became fascinated by aesthetic manipulation when he had his ears pierced at age 5. By age 18, he had more than 50 piercings in his face, leading to the nickname "tackle box". Now, Russ has had even more body modifications, including electrical key fobs fitted into his hands to unlock his door, scarification on his head, ultraviolet tattoos covering his face, implanted silicon scarab beetle on his hand, and horns implanted in his head.

He now works as a body modification artist, giving clients forked snake tongues, ultraviolet tattoos, and pointed ears. He’s his own walking advert for the massive range of body modifications he can perform.
Russ said:
If there is anything I truly own, it’s my body. I view modifications as the art and my body is the canvas. I define myself as a transhumanist – I evolve with technology and time.
I’m always updating; always upgrading. Since becoming an adult, I find myself gravitating towards more functional modifications that enhance my natural abilities – such as unlocking my front door with an device I’ve had surgically implanted in my hand.
Though occasionally I undergo modifications just for aesthetic reasons.
Russ is currently working on upgrading the casted silicone horns he had fitted into his head to "lead the shallow and judgmental away". He added that he wants to make sure that people who fancy body modification get it done safely, which is why he began working as a body modification artist.

He explains:
I started modifying with ear piercings at the age of five soon leading into brightly colored hair. I’m not forcing anyone to like the modifications and I encourage people to ask questions if they’re intrigued.

If you want to ask a modified individual questions, you should always take the same consideration that you would when approaching anybody else in public. Whether its tattoos, piercings or advanced body modifications, do not choose the cheap option. You only get one body, and your health is of the upmost importance.

Russian scientist who invented nerve agent that poisoned Russian spy and his daughter in UK is knocked down by car

Russian scientist who invented nerve agent that poisoned Russian spy and his daughter in UK is knocked down by car

The scientist who created nerve gas Novichok, which was used in poisoning former spy Sergei Skripal in the UK, has been hit by a car in Russia.

Vladimir Uglev, 71, was hit at a pedestrian crossing near his home, which is close to the Black Sea resort of Anapa. He jumped on to the bumper and crashed through the windscreen in order to avoid getting under the wheels of the vehicle.

The accident left him with injuries to his head, arms, and legs. Uglev was strong enough to talk following the crash after undergoing an MRI for his head injuries.

He said: "I noticed that the car was going fast, not slowing down ahead of the crossing. I started to run and nearly reached the end of the crossing, when the car got me."

The driver of the vehicle was an unidentified 70-year-old man who lived locally, according to The Bell news. He was said to have stopped at the scene after the incident and a police investigation is currently underway to determine what caused the crash.
Uglev, who first synthesised Novichok in 1975 when he was working for the USSR, said he did not believe he was targeted deliberately. The nerve gas Novichok is at the centre of an international row between Russia and the UK. Uglev has been widely quoted since the British claim it was used in a chemical weapon attack on ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal, 66, and his daughter Yulia, 33.

Following the attack on Skripal, Uglev made some comments regarding Novichok which may have upset Russian officials. He raised concerns about the security of Russian nerve agent stocks after the collapse of the USSR and said he could not exclude some lab workers might have been tempted to sell toxic substances.
