Kogi political crisis: ''INTERPOL's position has vindicated me'' - Dino Melaye

Kogi political crisis:

Embattled Senator Dino Melaye says the position of the International Police Organization INTERPOL, on his faceoff with the Kogi state police command, has vindicated him and also given credence to his earlier stance that the allegations of gunrunning leveled against him by the Kogi state police command was politically motivated.

INTERPOL in an email sent to Premiumtimes, said they have not acted on the alert from the Kogi state police command for Dino's arrest because they do not meddle into political, military or religious issues.

Reacting to INTERPOL's position, Dino in a statement released on his social media handle, said
''There is no doubt that the position of the INTERPOL validates his assertions and belief that the latest allegations against him were politically motivated by the Kogi State government and its agents, hence he has been vindicated from outside Nigeria since INTERPOL does not engage in "politically-motivated operations".
He added that he is not surprised by the INTERPOL pronouncement because the organization's charter forbids it, at least in theory, from undertaking interventions or activities of a political, military, religious, or racial nature or involving itself in disputes over such matters.

Kogi state police command alerted INTERPOL and declared Dino wanted on March 28th after two suspected assassins linked to him fled from police custody. The criminals have since been re-arrested.

How adorable! 3-week-old baby continues to sleep in the exact same position as in his ultrasound

How adorable! 3-week-old baby continues to sleep in the exact same position as in his ultrasound

A new mother has shared photos of her adorable newborn son sleeping at various times, showing a unique sleeping position, which is exactly the same position as in his ultrasound photo.

Michael Steppling is only 3 weeks old, but he already has his unique pose, one that he formed long before he was born.

When Sarah Kelleher Steppling, from South Carolina, was pregnant with Michael, she went for an ultrasound and on the screen, she saw her unborn child in a relaxed position with his arms behind his head. Ever since he was born, the boy has continued to stay in that same position. Whenever he is nursing or sleeping, he automatically kicks back in the same position.

Sarah took to Reddit to share a side-by-side of Michael three weeks before being born and three weeks after, and the resemblance is incredible.

She told Yahoo: "From day one, this kid knew how to relax. He always slept with his hands up like that. If you were to go through my phone right now, you’d find probably about a million and a half images of him sleeping in that exact same position. One day, I thought to go back and look at his ultrasound pictures. I saw that one and was like, ‘OMG! He sleeps just like that now!’ "

The Nigerian Army needs more medical personnel – Maj.-Gen. Ikechukwu Okeke

The?Nigerian Army needs more medical personnel ? Maj.-Gen. Ikechukwu Okeke

Maj-Gen. Ikechukwu Okeke, the Corp Commander, 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, yesterday in Lagos said that the army needed more medical personnel for effective operational efficiency.

Speaking at the inauguration of newly renovated Army Reference Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, Okeke said the army needed to recruit more medical personnel in view of widespread deployment of doctors across formations and units, especially in the North East.

“I wish to humbly appeal to the Chief of Army Staff , Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, to continue the gesture of recuitement and commissioning of medical personnel to fill the gaps. I also commend the efforts being made to persuade the Ministry of Defence to absorb some temporary civilian staff employed by the hospitals to ease the salary burden,” he said.

“I have also released funds for the improvement of facilities in the Nigerian Army College of Nursing to enable it meet accreditation requirements and be able to admit civilian students. This will assist in providing the right calibre of staff to man these renovated facilities for the deployment of medical personnel in formations and units of the army,” he said.

Present at the inauguration were the 81 Division General Officer Commanding, Maj.-Gen. Enobong Udoh and other senior military officers, both serving and retired.

God

A Texas teenager from Lamar High School in the Houston Independent School District, was accepted by all 20 of the colleges and universities he applied to.

17-year-old Micheal Brown from Houston’s Third Ward, reportedly applied to 20 colleges and universities, including four Ivy League schools, and was accepted by all of the institutions after he had received an acceptance letter from Stanford University in December.

The acceptance emails reportedly came with more than $260,000 in scholarships.

In a Sunday statement on Chron.com, the excited teenager says: “It’s surprising I was accepted to all of them,” Brown said few days after the last of the acceptance emails came in.

However, his principal and counselors were not surprised at all as he was involved in a long list of extracurricular activities, including debate.
Michael who achieved an impressive high school academic record of  4.68 GPA is looking to be a political science major. He recently worked on Mayor Sylvester Turner’s election campaign.

According to the reports, Brown hasn’t made a final decision yet, but he has listed seven schools. “In no particular order,” they are: Northwestern, Georgetown, Princeton, Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard and Stanford Universities.
In his words: “I got nervous, because I don’t think anyone ever wants to be rejected.”

"No one wants to learn the ropes" Alibaba scolds Nigerian youths after they swarmed his page begging for fictitious money Dangote gave him to share

"No one wants to learn the ropes" Alibaba scolds Nigerian youths after they swarmed his page begging for fictitious money Dangote gave him to share

So, yesterday, ace comedian Alibaba shared a post saying he was giving out 25 million Naira to people with great business ideas, courtesy of Aliko Dangote. He has now revealed it wasn't real. It was an experiment of sorts and the result of the experiment, which he has shared, is quite enlightening.

Before writing that he was giving out 25 million Naira with help from Dangote, Alibaba shared a post where he said he wanted to teach young people some of the things the late Pa Steve Rhodes taught him which helped him get ahead in life, but only 7 people commented to indicate their interest.

However, when he shared that he was giving out money to businesses, the post got lots of comments. He also got DMs from people asking for the money. But what's surprising is that most of them had no business ideas and were asking for the money to do things like open a church and sort out their families.

From what he learnt from his little experiment, Alibaba concluded that "few want to put in the work".

Orji Uzor Kalu shades the heck out of Obasanjo, but made sure not to call him out directly...lol

Orji Uzor Kalu shades the heck out of Obasanjo, but made sure not to call him out directly...lol

Former Abia state governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, has described the critics of president Buhari's administration as '' yesterday's lawless and reckless leaders of Nigeria'' .
In an apparent reaction to the recent attack from ex-pesident Olusegun Obasanjo on the Buhari-led administration, Kalu said the leaders that are criticising Buhari now never obeyed the laws of the land when they were in power.

He said the leaders who now write letters and speak out in condemnation, never responded or acted on the letters that were written to them when they were in office.

The former governor said this at the Ake Palace of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, when he led a team of his advocacy group, National Movement for Re-election of Muhammadu Buhari, to visit the monarch.
“The greatest challenge of our country is leaders not obeying the law. When they are leaders, they don’t want to obey the law; when they go out of leadership, they criticise everybody who wants to obey the law. This is the problem of the country. We have had leaders who disobeyed every law of the land. We’ve also had leaders who were reckless when they were leaders and when they go out, they call people all kinds of name. We have also seen leaders that have never seen anything good in other people’s leadership, they only know about themselves. So, we want to thank you for the support…I know you are close friend of President Muhammadu Buhari and I want you to maintain that friendship; don’t allow anybody to distract you whether people from here or from my area, stay in course. President Buhari has not finished the job he came to do. If God gives him good health and long life, he has not finished. He has to go for another four years to be able to finish. Despite people who are criticising and these people also took no criticism when they were in office. Despite people who are writing letters; these people we also wrote letters to them, they didn’t reply to our own letters,” Kalu said
He urged the monarch not to relent in his support for the Buhari-led administration.
“In any democracy, there must be people for and against. We are for Buhari, some people are against and we wish them well. And we want to thank you for the key role of peace that you and other traditional rulers have been playing. Nigeria unity is non-negotiable. We are for oneness of this country, we are for leaders who are sincere to lead us well, we are for leaders who are equally committed to the rules and tenets of democracy, ” he said.

Benue State prince arrested for allegedly masterminding the trafficking of 23 people

Benue State prince arrested?for allegedly masterminding the trafficking of 23 people

Benue State Police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni today said that prince Messenger Tar has been arrested for allegedly masterminding the trafficking of 23 people..

He was caught while conveying the 23 people out of the state in an 18-seater bus belonging to a transport company known as Benue Links. Owoseni said the police suspected that the victims, who are between the ages of 12 and 45, were being transported illegally for trafficking purposes.

He said: “Investigation revealed that the victims were lured by the suspect on promises of providing them with jobs at Kiama in Kwara State but that they were actually going to be taken outside the country to Niger for exploitation. The victims would be handed over to their parents/guardians while the suspected trafficker will face the law.”

The suspect, however, denied that he was trafficking the people for exploitation. He told newsmen during his parade by the police that he had a restaurant in Kwara state and had wanted the two ladies among the alleged victims to work for him, having settled their parents of the sum of N10,000 monthly salary.

He added that the other victims were only going to join their relatives living in Kwara state.

Austrian government bans headscarf for school girls

Austrian government bans headscarf for school girls

The right-wing government in Australia today announced that girls attending day care centres and elementary schools should no longer be wearing headscarves announcing a plan to draft a new bill.

“The veiling of small children should definitely have no place in our country,” conservative Chancellor Sebastian Kurz told reporters after a meeting. He said that the step will curb gender discrimination against girls and prevent the development of marginalized “parallel societies” within Austria.

“It’s important to take a stance against political Islam. We want to make sure that children grow up free and that they are not pulled into these [Islamic] mechanisms,” added Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache of the far-right Freedom Party.  Small girls with headscarves are not a large-scale phenomenon in Austria.

When a asked for statistics that underpin the new policy, Kurz was not able to provide numbers but said that “it is a growing problem.” Half a year ago, a ban on face veils came into effect in Austria, a policy that likewise affects only a small number of people.  So far, police have cited only 50 transgressors.

To pass the new headscarf ban for girls, the two right-wing government parties need the support of one opposition party in parliament, to secure a necessary two-thirds majority. Social Democrats and Liberals signalled Wednesday that would consider the bill, while calling for a package of integration policies rather than symbolic steps like a ban.

Ghanaian teachers embark on indefinite strike over unpaid salary arrears

Ghanaian teachers embark on indefinite strike over unpaid salary arrears

On Wednesday, public-sector graduate teachers in pre-tertiary institutions across Ghana declared an indefinite strike over unpaid salary arrears.

President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, at a news conference said the teachers took the decision due to the deliberate actions and inaction of the government regarding the arrears.

“We have no other alternative but to advise ourselves. When the senior high schools reopen on April 16, nobody should expect our members to be present,” said Carbonu.

According to him, no convincing reasons have been given by the government for the non-payment of the salary arrears after a series of meetings between the two parties. “What we see are orchestrations, tactics, maneuvering and manipulations employed by the Ministry of Finance to drag its feet and possibly refuse to repay the arrears at all,” the NAGRAT president added.

The arrears, amounting to 50 million cedis (11.33 million U.S. dollars) accrued from 2013 are in respect of salary adjustments, up-grading and promotions, vehicle maintenance allowance as well as transfer grants. Carbonu said it also included the salaries of newly recruited teachers into the Ghana Education Service (GES) who had taught for several months but were yet to be paid.

The strike action by the graduate teachers is set to have a toll on education, as final-year students in senior high schools here began writing their West African Secondary School Certificate Examination on Tuesday.  The teachers are usually engaged as invigilators and supervisors for the examinations.

PDP demands full disclosure of President Buhari's scheduled visit to the UK

PDP demands full disclosure of President Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded that the Presidency immediately make public all issues relating to the so-called private visit of President Muhammadu Buhari’s to the United Kingdom.
The party, which queried the Presidency for always shrouding issues around the President in secrecy, pointedly demanded a full disclosure on the scope, purpose, direct destination, duration as well as the cost and source of the funding for this undisclosed tourism.
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Wednesday, said President Buhari is not a private citizen and cannot embark on private trips, wrapped in secrecy, since his upkeep draws directly from national resources and taxpayers’ money.
While the PDP has nothing against Mr. President embarking on any trip, we insist that as the President of the Federal Republic, there must be full disclosures to Nigerians because the citizens deserve to know the purpose of the visit and the cost on the nation.
We know that Mr. President is billed to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled to take place between April 16 and 20, but Nigerians are wondering why he is taking off to an undisclosed destination in London two clear weeks ahead.
We ask; Is President Buhari and his handlers hiding anything from Nigerians so much so that they cannot disclose the reason and duration of the so-called private visit?
Nigerians are invited to note that this secret visit has a departure date but silent on the purpose, date and place of arrival.
Today, our economy is hemorrhaging and the citizens are languishing because of the continued lack of accountability and total incompetence of the Buhari-led administration.
The PDP insists that public officers at all levels, particularly the occupier of the office of the President, must be accountable, transparent and answerable in all their dealings at all times, especially under an administration that claims zero tolerance for corruption.

How Nigerian gangs are making millions from phones stolen in United Kingdom

How Nigerian gangs are making millions from phones stolen in United Kingdom

A new investigation carried out by The Sun news reports that Nigerian phone black market makes millions from selling phones stolen in the UK popular referred to as UK used phones.
According to The Sun report, investigators discovered “UK used” iPhones being sold for £560 in stores and markets in Nigeria’s largest city Lagos. Business is booming for the Nigerian racketeers because of soaring demand from the oil-rich middle classes in a country where hi-tech gadgets are relatively scarce.

And because Nigeria has not signed up to a global deal blacklisting stolen phones, British moped gangs are able to keep the crime bosses supplied by exporting tens of thousands of snatched mobiles.
MPs urged police to cut off that supply by cracking down on the moped gangs.
Tory MP Bob Neill, chairman of the Commons Justice Committee, said: “This is a very serious matter. We’ve seen an increase in moped crimes across the UK.
Sun investigators discovered “UK used” iPhones being sold for £560 in stores and markets in Nigeria’s largest city Lagos. Where it is sold to tech starved middle class Nigerians.
And because Nigeria has not signed up to a global deal blacklisting stolen phones, British moped gangs are able to keep the crime bosses supplied by exporting tens of thousands of snatched mobiles.
MPs urged police to cut off that supply by cracking down on the moped gangs.
“The police need to take these crimes more seriously and make investigating them a higher priority. And sentences need to reflect that this is serious organised crime which should attract tougher penalties.”
Fellow Tory Andrew Percy said: “It is truly shocking to think that violent attacks here in the UK are being used to make black marketeers in other parts of the world wealthy.”
It is also reported that in 2016 alone over 440,000 phones were stolen in UK. In London alone there were 60,000 mobile thefts and robberies, almost two-thirds of them iPhones.
In the 12 months to June 2017, the Met recorded 16,158 phone crimes related to mopeds, more than three times those reported in the year to June 2016.
How Nigerian gangs are making millions from phones stolen in United Kingdom
The robbers usually operate in two with one of them driving the motrocycle while the passenger quickly snatches the phone.
The phones they grab are first raided of data which is used to try to hack bank accounts.
They are then sold on in bulk to middlemen who ship them to eastern Europe to be stripped of private information and reconditioned. The phones are then moved on for sale — with Nigeria, Algeria and India the main markets.
The Sun reportedly witnessed the end of the chain at  “Computer Village” market in the Ikeja, Lagos.
Multiple stores offered “UK phones and accessories” and “UK used phones at affordable prices.”
Traders we questioned insisted their merchandise was from reputable sources. A seller at Emeka Michael EB International Shop said: “Most of our phones are London used.”
We found iPhones at sale for £560 — £310 cheaper than the authorised Apple dealer’s price. Another store in Computer Village offered an iPhone 6 for £230.
According to the Sun, Nigeria’s lack of phone network regulation makes it an easy target for crooks.
The Sun reportedly contacted A Lagos police spokesman who said he is not aware stolen phones from Uk are sold in Lagos.
“I am not aware that stolen phones from the UK end up in Lagos. If there is a complaint about a stolen phone in Lagos we shall investigate it.”

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi sacks SSG, appoints new one

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi sacks SSG, appoints new one

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state on Monday, sacked Prof Bernard Odoh as the Secretary to the State Government and appointed Dr. Hygenus Nwokwu as his replacement.

Announcing the sack in the government House, Abakaliki during a massive solidarity rally by the people of Ezza Ezekuna, the Governor said he has invalidated the resignation letter earlier submitted by the sacked SSG because the letter was written on a public holiday and therefore did not hold any valid meaning.
“In my capacity as the Governor of Ebonyi state, I hereby nullify the purported letter of resignation earlier written by Prof Odoh because he wrote the letter on a public holiday and we all know that by law, any letter of resignation done on a public holiday does not hold water. I also here and now announce his sack as the Secretary to the State Government, SSG” he said.

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi sacks SSG, appoints new one

Umahi further lamented that despite the love he showed the former SSG even though he was not a member of his political party, the PDP at the time of his appointment, the young man still stabbed him at the back.
“I appointed him SSG because I felt he was a responsible Ezza man. Many people faulted his appointment because he was not a PDP member but an APGA senatorial candidate in 2015 general election. Since his appointment, I have shown him love and assisted him so many ways. I called him to my country home and told him that case of murder is a very serious one, I asked him to see me but he switched off his phone throughout the Easter period and the next thing I heard was his resignation letter flying up and down in the social media”
Governor Umahi also announced the immediate appointment of Dr. Hygenus Nwokwu as the next Secretary to the State Government and described him as a round peg in a round hole.
Dr. Nwokwu before his appointment was the Deputy Director General of Divine Mandate, a political platform in which Governor Umahi ran his campaign in 2015 general election and also hails from the same Ezza North local government area of the state with the sacked SSG.
Speaking earlier during the solidarity rally by the Ezza nation, member representing Ikwo/Ezza South federal constituency, Laz Ogbee said they were in government house to disassociate themselves and entire Ezza nation from what he described as shameful action of the former SSG.
He said his action did not reflect the character of Ezza man, adding that he took the unilateral decision to embarrass the state government without any recourse to his people, the Ezza nation in whose trust he held the position of Secretary to the State Government.
Mr. Anayo Edwin Nwonu representing Ezza North/Ishielu federal constituency described the action of the former SSG as embarrassment to the image of Ezza nation and called on the governor to disregard the action as the entire Ezza nation will give him massive support in 2019 governorship election.
