Man sentenced to life in prison for impregnating his daughter and shooting his son to cover it up in Ekiti State

Man sentenced to life in prison for impregnating?his daughter and?shooting?his son to cover it up?in Ekiti State

A man simply identified as Lucky Ayosin has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti for impregnating his daughter after raping her.

Justice John Adeyeye also sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of attempted murder of his son, Ilesanmi, who caught him having sex with the victim.

The judge ordered that both sentences should run concurrently.

Ilesanmi was shot by the father with a single-barreled gun in a bid to cover up the incest. The boy escaped and reported the incident to their mother, Yemisi Bayode, who had divorced Lucky 14 years ago and left the two children in his custody.

While the case was going on, the victim, who was a Senior Secondary School 3 pupil at the time of the incident, gave birth to a baby girl from the resulting pregnancy. The incident, according to the charge sheet, occurred on or around November 19, 2015, at Isaba-Ekiti, in the Ikole Local Government Area of the state.

The convict first appeared before a magistrate’s court after which legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions necessitated the transfer of the matter to the state High Court.

Lucky was first arraigned at the High Court on February 21, 2017, on two counts of attempted murder and rape. The prosecution called five witnesses in the course of the trial, including a medical doctor who examined the victim.  Exhibits tendered included the statement of the convict, a medical report and the single-barrelled gun used by Lucky to shoot his son.

A counsel from the office of the DPP, Kemi Ajumobi, represented the state, while the convict was represented by A.T. Baderinwa from the Legal Aid Council.

NYC correction officer shoots and kills black woman, claims it accidentally happened while he was cleaning his gun

A Rikers Island correction officer has been arrested for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend on Wednesday, March 21.

42-year-old Alain Samba killed 35-year-old Marie Faye overnight on Wednesday in Faye's Bronx apartment in New York. The single gunshot woke up people who live in the building on Ogden Avenue. As Marie Faye was sprawled out on the floor of the Ogden Ave. apartment in Highbridge just before 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, Samba called 911 to report the incident.

"I accidentally shot my friend," Alain Samba told the operator.
Police arrived to find Faye wounded, and 42-year-old Samba with a gun. Samba claims he was cleaning his gun when the weapon fired on accident. He was off-duty at the time of the incident.

Faye suffered a gunshot wound in her chest and was rushed to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where she died.
Speaking about the victim, Jose Perez, Fayes's apartment building superintendent said: "She smiled all the time. I could not say one negative thing about her. She was a fantastic person. Her career as a nurse was taking off. I can't believe this happened."

Detectives charged Samba with criminally negligent homicide. He was held on $35,000 after a brief arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court on Thursday night. Sources said Samba, a father of two, has been a correction officer for just over a year and was assigned to Rikers Island before his arrest.

#Fraud: Over 30,000 fake names discovered in Nigerian police payroll

#Fraud: Over 30,000 fake names discovered in Nigerian?police payroll

At least, 30,000 fake police names have been found out to be on the payroll of the Nigerian Federal Government!

An Integrated Personnel Payroll System that was introduced to screen serving police officers trimmed the number of names down from 370,000 to 291,685. There had been gross corrupt practices going on within the police force, according to the government.

It has been revealed that some corrupt officers were feeding fat on salaries being paid to the ‘ghost workers’. Some of the corrupt officers reportedly kicked against the government’s employment of the Integrated Personnel Payroll System platform.

The platform, according to the government, will offer respite to police officers who, about two weeks ago, complained of unexplained deductions in their salaries.  President Buhari’s administration introduced the IPPS platform for all Federal government agencies in his determined fight against corrupt practices in the country.

"None of una go die better" Charly Boy criticizes the government for fighting Nnamdi Kanu yet failing to do same to herdsmen and Boko Haram

Media personality Charly Boy, AKA Area Fada is criticizing the Nigerian government for fighting Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu but failing to fight Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen.

Area Fada said the government began Operation Python Dance, sending soldiers to the South East to fight Nnamdi Kanu and pro-Biafra supporters. However, rather than employ the same method with the terrorist group Boko Haram and violent herdsmen, the government did the opposite by granting Boko Haram amnesty and giving them money, while herdsmen who killed innocent citizens walk free, with the government advising farmers and governors of affected states to give them land so their cows can graze.

He ended the rant by placing a curse of the "incompetent vagabonds in power."
Area Fada wrote: "When Nnamdi Kanu dey talk Biafra, dem send phytons to go killam.
Boko Haram dey terrorise dem dey dash dem money and amnesty. Herdsmen dey Kill my people, dem say give dem ur land so der cows can eat. See useless, incompetent, vagabonds in power. None of una go die better."

Trump expels 60 Russians from US, closes consulate in Seattle over Skripal poisoning

Trump expels 60 Russians from US, closes consulate in Seattle over Skripal poisoning

US President Donald Trump has ordered the expulsion of 60 Russians from the United States as a way of backing up the UK over the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, England.

The United States also said on Monday it will be closing the Russian consulate in Seattle in response to the attempted assassination of the former Russian spy, who was a double agent, and his daughter. Both are still battling for their lives after being poisoned with a military-grade nerve agent in England last month.

Trump expels 60 Russians from US, closes consulate in Seattle over Skripal poisoning

"The United States takes this action - in conjunction with our NATO allies and partners around the world - in response to Russia's use of a military-grade chemical weapon on the soil of the United Kingdom, the latest in its ongoing pattern of destabilising activities around the world," the White House said in a statement.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the US and its allies want to send a message to Russia that "actions have consequences".

Most of the Russians expelled from the US were intelligence officials. The order includes 12 Russian intelligence officers from Russia's mission to the United Nations headquarters in New York.
By way of retaliation, Moscow said it will expel at least 60 staff from US diplomatic missions in Russia in response to Washington's decision to expel Russian diplomats, Interfax news agency quoted a member of the upper house of the Russian parliament as saying.

Russia's ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, said the United State's decision was "wrongful" and destroying what little remained of US-Russian ties, RIA news agency reported. He said Moscow's response would be commensurate.

'Leave me out of your police problems' - Kogi State Governor, Yahya Bello tells Dino Melaye

Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello has responded to allegations by Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, that he was working with the police to destroy him. The Governor told the Senator to leave him out of his problems with the police.

In a statement released by Kingsley Fanwo, his spokesperson, Governor Bello advised Melaye to appear before the police to clear the criminal allegations against him.

Fanwo further stated that the simple thing for the Senator would have been for him to prove his case and leave the governor out of his problems.  He said,
“He should face the issue and leave the governor out of the issues surrounding his face off with the police. The governor is a law-abiding citizen of Nigeria who would not involve himself in such criminality, home or abroad. No organization has ever indicted the governor of such crime".
"He has respect for human life. What has the governor got to do with that? Criminals were nabbed by the police and those criminals disclosed the persons behind the supply of arms to them. On our part as a government, we are pleased that our anti-crime efforts are yielding fruits. Yahaya Bello is committed to ensuring the safety of all Kogi residents. That is his primary responsibility to the people of the state. He has also commended the police for arresting criminals that were disturbing the peace of the state. Dino should rather face the law. The governor has nothing to do with his travails” the statement read.

Mrs Ijeoma Uzoma, who delivered triplets last Thursday at Tolu Crescent Medical Centre at Ajileye Street, Bariga, Lagos, has recounted how her husband ran away from home four months ago after her scan result.
‘’My husband left home since December when we did the scan and the results showed that I’m carrying triplets. I don’t know where he is. I’ve not set my eyes on him since then. He left home without my notice. I wonder how he could abandon me in such condition. If he returns, I will tell him to go and see the government since they are the ones taking care of me,” she said.

MMM founder dies of heart attack at 62

MMM founder dies of heart attack at 62

Founder of the MMM Ponzi scheme, Sergei Mavrodi, has died of a heart attack at the age of 62. The Russian businessman was reportedly rushed to the hospital late on March 25 with pain in his chest and died several hours later.

Mavrodi started the MMM financial pyramid, a Ponzi scheme that deprived millions of Russians their savings in the 1990s. The scheme promised returns of 20 percent to 75 percent a month for investors.

However, as soon as the number of new clients stopped growing, the pyramid collapsed, causing huge financial losses for at least 10 million people, in some cases leaving them destitute.

A Moscow court found Mavrodi guilty of financial fraud in 2007 and sentenced him to 4 1/2 years in a penal colony. He later launched another pyramid scheme called MMM-2011, calling on investors to purchase so-called Mavro currency units in a bid to get rid of the "unfair" financial system. The project was however halted after a few months. Then, between 2011 and 2016, Mavrodi launched Ponzi schemes under the MMM brand in India, China, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria.

The operations collapsed in Nigeria in December 2016, causing investors to lose huge sums and this led to the death of at least 1 Nigerian investor who ingested insecticide because the money he invested in the scheme was the savings meant for his wedding.

Grace Mugabe is being investigated for allegedly smuggling ivory worth millions to underground foreign markets

Grace Mugabe is being investigated for allegedly smuggling ivory worth millions to underground foreign markets

Investigators from the parks and wildlife authority have handed documents to police showing that the former Zimbabwean first lady, Grace Mugabe spirited large consignments of ivory to China, the United Arab Emirates and the United States among other destinations,  Sunday Mail reports.

Police spokeswoman Charity Charamba confirmed receiving a report but declined to elaborate when questioned by AFP.
The report accused Grace Mugabe of ordering officials to grant her permits to export the ivory as gifts to the leaders of various countries.

“Once outside Zimbabwe, the 'gifts' would be pooled together with other consignments of the product and routed to black markets,” The Sunday Mail reported.
A senior official in the presidency, Christopher Mutsvangwa, told the paper the government was tipped off by an unnamed whistleblower.

“Police and whistleblowers laid a trap for suppliers believed to be working for Grace Mugabe,” Mutsvangwa said.
“The culprits were caught and that is how investigations started. When we were confronted with so much evidence, there is no way we could ignore.”
The paper said police may question the former first lady soon.
Zimbabwe has suffered rampant poaching of elephants, targeted for their ivory tusks which are used for ornaments and medicines.
At least 400 elephants died from cyanide poisoning in Hwange, Zimbabwe’s biggest national park in the northwest of the country, between 2013 and 2015.
But parks director-general Fulton Mangwanya said poaching had declined since Mugabe’s ouster.
“Poaching levels have dropped sharply in Hwange because the market has been disturbed,” he said.
