Mark Zuckerberg breaks his silence over 'Cambridge Analytica' scandal that compromised 51 million profiles

Mark Zuckerberg breaks his silence over

Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg broke his silence over the Cambridge Analytica scandal on Wednesday but did not apologize for the fact that 51 million Facebook users' information was taken without their knowledge.

In a lengthy post, Zuckerberg offered his timeline of the events which led to the revelation this week that the shadowy data firm which shaped Trump's campaign and has been linked to Brexit improperly harvested tens of millions of users' data in 2013 by buying it from an app.

READMark Zuckerberg loses $5b as Facebook shares fall

He said 'the good news' was that Facebook changed its practices years ago to stop apps from accessing so much information. He however did acknowledge that the breach happened under his watch and said the company was now working on ways to win back users' trust.
'I started Facebook, and at the end of the day I'm responsible for what happens on our platform. 'I'm serious about doing what it takes to protect our community. While this specific issue involving Cambridge Analytica should no longer happen with new apps today, that doesn't change what happened in the past. 'We will learn from this experience to secure our platform further and make our community safer for everyone going forward,' he said.

His announcement sent Facebook's struggling stock back up to $169.39 before the final bell.   At 1.30pm, after news emerged that he was due to address the scandal, the stock surpassed the $170 mark for the first time since Monday. Before the scandal, it was $185.

In his statement, Zuckerberg said that while it was 'his responsibility' what happened at Facebook, the company was duped by Aleksandr Kogan, the researcher who sold the information to Cambridge Analytica, just as the people who gave him their details were.

Governor Fayose congratulates parents of released Dapchi schoolgirls, accuses FG of conspiracy

Governor Fayose congratulates parents of released Dapchi schoolgirls, accuses FG of conspiracy

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has congratulated parents of the abducted Dapchi Girls that were released today and sympathized with parents of five of the girls that reportedly died, describing the abduction of the girls as an indictment on the federal government and their release as “drama scripted by the government and its agents to swindle Nigerians.”

Fayose, while reacting to the release of the abducted school girls, said; “This appears like an arranged abduction and an arranged release, but we thank God that the innocent girls have returned home and we condole with parents of those that died.”

In a statement issued on Wednesday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said it was strange that the girls could be brought back to Dapchi by their abductors without the security agents knowing when they were returned and who returned them.

He said; “Curiously, the same spirit who made sure that all military checkpoints in Dapchi and other surrounding towns were removed to pave way for abduction of the girls also made sure that the girls were returned without any security agent seeing them.
“One can only be hopeful that the real script writers behind this drama will be exposed one day.
“Nigerians should recall that the Governor of Yobe state, Ibrahim Geidam said that military checkpoints were withdrawn from Dapchi and other communities a few days before the abduction of the 110 girls. This was also corroborated by the Amnesty International in its report that was published in the newspapers yesterday.
“Specifically, Amnesty International said that security forces failed to act on advance warnings that a convoy of Boko Haram fighters was heading to Dapchi town and that between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm on February 19, 2018, calls were made to tell the security services that the Boko Haram insurgents were in the Dapchi area.
“No doubt, withdrawal of military check-points from Dapchi and other communities, few days before the 110 students were abducted and failure of the security forces to act on advance warnings exposed the conspiracy of the federal government and its agents in the abduction of the school girls and other dastardly acts of the insurgents.
“Interestingly, no one was questioned up till now despite conflicting claims by the army and police as well as the damning report by the Amnesty International hat between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm on February 19, 2018, calls were made to tell the security services that the Boko Haram insurgents were in the Dapchi area.”
The governor, who reiterated his allegation that Boko Haram insurgency had become source of treasury looting; said; “Those benefitting from Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) scams, payment of ransom (in dollars) to free those abducted by the Boko Haram insurgents, among others will never wish to see the end of the insurgency.”

Homosexuality is God’s way of punishing us for abortions – Evangelist Harvey

American Evangelist, Linda Harvey, has shared her thoughts on abortion and homosexuality.
According to her, there are many gay children in the world today due to God punishing everyone for the abortions committed in the world.
Harvey made this known while speaking at the Bringing America Back to Life Convention recently. In her speech, Harvey said; “You may have thought these were separate issues, but they are foundationally connected.
One has to consider, first of all, the horrifying possibility that this complete sexual and human identity meltdown could be an aspect of God’s judgment on us for aborting millions of our children.
We won’t know until we see him, but it is very possible that as an instrument of God’s judgment, he is using the punishment to come on us through our children, the corruption of our children. Even more horrifying, we are letting it happen.”

Dad throws daughter into a well for alleged witchcraft

A 30-year-old father, Manu Yakubu, has been arrested and arraigned before the Nasarawa State High Court for allegedly dumping his 6-year-old daughter, Jennifer, in a well, over witchcraft allegation, Punchng reports.
Yakubu allegedly dumped her daughter in the well over alleged witchcraft in Gidigidi. The prosecuting counsel for the police, James Anata, told the court that Yakubu committed the offence on December 8, 2017.
At the Tuesday hearing in the case, a prosecution witness, Samuel Kuje, told the court that he discovered the victim inside the well in his farm in the early hours of December 8.
The police said Yakubu had in his statement confessed to the crime, explaining that he dumped his daughter in the well because he believed she was responsible for his ill luck.
Yakubu was said to have written in the statement that her daughter had openly confessed that she was a member of a secret cult and had handed him and his wife over to her fellow cultists to be killed this year.
He claimed that the six-year-old admitted that she was responsible for the death of her uncle, Diour Adamu, and her two siblings who passed on shortly after birth.
Yakubu said he believed her daughter’s confession about being a member of a secret cult “because  sometimes she will disappear into the bush and spend over a week before resurfacing.”
The prosecutor on Tuesday urged the judge to convict Yakubu as charged, arguing that the police had proved their case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt. Justice Rose Fuji adjourned the case till April 23, 2018.

Army hands over 106 released Dapchi abductees to FG

The FG said a total of 106 abducted persons, comprising 104 Daphi schoolgirls, one other girl and a boy were freed by insurgents in the early hours of Wednesday.

Briefing journalists in Maiduguri, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said all the 106 persons were freed unconditionally, contrary to reports in a section of the media that ransom was paid and that some insurgents were swapped for the freed persons.
”It is not true that we paid ransom for the release of the Dapchi girls, neither was there a prisoner swap to secure their release.
What happened was that the abduction itself was a breach of the ceasefire talks between the insurgents and the government, hence it became a moral burden on the abductors. Any report that we paid ransom or engaged in prisoner swap is false,” he said.

Meanwhile, the freed persons have been formally handed over to the FG. The Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, handed over the girls and one boy to the four-member FG Delegation at the Nigerian Air Force base in Maiduguri on Wednesday evening.

The girls were immediately airlifted to Abuja aboard a military transport plane.

Neighbourhood retaliation claims the life of Nigerian man engaged to be married

“The only thing that led to his death was simply walking out of that building at that particular time and place,” said homicide Det. Jason Shankaran. “Nnamdi was an innocent man.”
Police say Ogba never saw his attackers, who approached from behind. All the evidence in the case so far leads homicide investigators to believe that Ogba was an innocent casualty in a retaliation against the Scarlettwood Ct. neighbourhood as a whole — a neighbourhood Ogba didn’t even live in.
On Monday, Shankaran updated the media with surveillance clips taken of the suspects and the vehicle they arrived in.
The various clips show two hooded male figures leaving their vehicle, following Ogba at a distance before converging upon him out of view of the camera and then fleeing past cameras back to their SUV.
Reacting to the news, his mom says she has cried all the tears she can and now she wants justice for her eldest son. “They took away my heart… Who do they think they are taking an innocent life?
I hope… my face haunts them for the rest of their lives,” Margaret Nwosu said on Tuesday as she spoke about the two suspects police say they are searching for in connection to Ogba’s death.
The 26-year-old moved to Canada from Nigeria over a decade ago. “When you come from another country to Canada, you come here for a better life,” said Nwosu, who herself moved to the country 15 years ago.
In his spare time, his family said Ogba could be found with his fiancée, who he planned to marry this year, or on the field playing soccer.

Yahoo boy arrested for duping a Swiss of $18,023

EFCC, on Tuesday, 20 March, 2018, arraigned Leeroy Egebe, (alias Amedeo Dante William, Alhassan Davide) before Justice E. A. Obile of the Federal High Court, sitting in Warri, Delta State, on an 8-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of $18,023.96.
Egebe’s troubles began when one Vivian Varotto-Guigoz, a citizen of Switzerland, petitoned the EFCC alleging that she met one Amedeo William Dante (the defendant) who claimed to be an Italian living in the U.K on a social dating site called “Badoo”.
They became lovers, exchanging emotions and later cash. She alleged that on several occasions, between 12 May and 14 October, 2015, she wired a total sum of CHF 196,701,44 and EUR 15, 957.43 to different individuals in the U.K, Canada and Nigeria at the request of Dante, for sundry reasons which she later discovered to be fraudulent.
The payments were allegedly made in five instalments: two into British accounts belonging to Amedeo William Dante and Dittimi Tamara-Finide while three were made into Nigerian accounts belonging to Alhassan Davide and Edin Obaro.
The petitioner also alleged that the defendant was reaching her through some English, Canadian and Nigerian telephone numbers.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him. In his ruling, Justice Obile granted the defendant bail in the sum of N3m and adjourned to 10 May, 2018 for trial, while the defendant was remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

Man kills himself and children over wife’s masturbation

A 30-year-old Zambian man has killed his two children with insecticide before committing suicide at a lodge in Lusaka’s Matero township, because his wife masturbated a lot
Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, says the children, Fernando, a boy aged 3 and Shamie, a girl aged 6, were found dead, while their father, Joe Tembo, was found gasping for air and rushed to the hospital where he later died.
Chilabi says Police officers who rushed to the scene, on Tuesday, found three empty bottles of pesticide, torn documents and two cell phones.
A worker at the said lodge alerted police in Matero after members of staff noticed that the guests did not leave their room after several attempts made to open the door.
Joe took pictures of the children before killing them and sent to his wife, who he complained was masturbating a lot and deprived him sexual pleasures. He also sent a voice note.
According to the audio, the two have been married for 8 years but his wife only wanted masturbation instead of sex. The wife was also, reportedly, never at home.

I sleep with only 5 men per day – Sex worker

John Okon, the owner of Collabor Hotel, an inn on Ige Street, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, has been arrested along with the hotel manager, Emmanuel Thomas, for allegedly hosting underage sex workers in the facility.
It was gathered that operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, acting on intelligence, busted the hotel on Saturday, March 10, 2018, and caught a 15-year-old primary school leaver allegedly engaging in prostitution.
The girl was said to have been brought from her village in the eastern part of the country by one Monica Ita, a few weeks ago, on the pretext that she (Ita) would get her a good job.
Oone Destiny Bassey, 19, and 18-year-old Bright Effiong, who was said to have been at the inn for three years, were also picked up by the operatives. The hotel operators admitted to providing service for the sex workers, except the 15-year-old girl.
The hotel manager, Thomas, said, “It is true that we provide rooms for sex workers where men visit them. We collect N5,000 from them (the sex workers) every week. We don’t give them out to men; they bring their customers themselves.”
In an interview with Punchng, the 15-year-old revealed that Ita persuaded her to come to Lagos when she (Ita) saw her playing around the village. She said, “Some days after I got to Lagos, she took me to the hotel to do prostitution.
I had yet to get a room when the police came to pick us.” On her part, bold and unabashed, Bassey, 25, said: “Nobody forced me into prostitution. I have been hustling at the hotel for some years now.
I send part of the money I make to my relatives in the village in Imo State, for the upkeep of my child. I don’t have parents and my husband is dead. I sleep with five men every day, so I make as much as N10,000.
I pay the hotel N5,000 every week. I wanted to save enough money for my education.” Effiong, from Calabar, said she went to bed with five men daily, adding that some of her customers paid N1,000 and she pays N3,000 per week for a room.

Only 76 abducted Dapchi girls were free and no ransom was paid – FG

The Nigerian government has confirmed the released of some of the girls abducted by Boko Haram militants from a secondary school in Dapchi, Yobe State.
The government said only 76 girls were released Wednesday, meaning the militants have not freed 34 of the girls. The confirmation was made in a statement by the Information Minister, Lai Mohammed.
Mr. Mohammed said President Buhari directives to all security agencies to do everything possible to secure the release of the girls, who were abducted February 19, had “yielded fruits”.
He said the release of the remaining abducted students was “ongoing”. He said the girls were released around 3 a.m. through “back-channel efforts” and with the help of some friends of the country, and that it was unconditional.

”For the release to work, the government had a clear understanding that violence and confrontation would not be the way out as it could endanger the lives of the girls, hence a non-violent approach was the preferred option.
Within the period when the girls were being brought back, operational pause was observed in certain areas to ensure free passage and also that lives were not lost,” Mr. Mohammed said.
He said the number of the freed girls would be updated after the remaining ones have been documented, “especially because the girls were not handed over to anyone but dropped off in Dapchi.”
