Shocking details of how the baby was murdered were revealed in the Barkly West Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday during the bail application of Evelyn Jacobs, the mother of the child, IOL reports.
Jacobs is accused of killing her baby after she and her co-accused, Emmanuel Welcome, apparently tried to perform an exorcism on the child on October 12, 2016.

Court of Appeal orders continuation of Senator Dino Melaye’s recall process from the Senate

Court of Appeal orders continuation of Senator Dino Melaye?s recall process from the Senate

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja today ordered the continuation of the recall process of Senator Dino Melaye.
Melaye had gone to the court to stop his recall from the senate initiated by members of his Kogi West Senatorial district.

In a unanimous decision today, the court dismissed the appeal filed by Melaye against the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered last year. The appellate struck out the suit filed at the court on the ground that there was no cause of action and the federal high that initially adjudicated the case lacked jurisdiction and ought not to have entertained the case in the first place.

INEC is yet to issue a statement relating to the date the recall will be reinstated in view of today’s judgment.

When I spoke with GEJ about Chibok girls, he told me that is my problem – Soyinka

While addressing his audience on Thursday at a dialogue organised by Ripples Centre for Data and Investigative Journalism in Lagos, Soyinka said Jonathan told him that he should take the abduction of the schoolgirls as his own problem and deal with it.
His words: “I reached out to former President Jonathan, and protested, chiding him severely on his reaction over the abduction of the Chibok girls.
I said to him; ‘you want to be accepted as a political leader, and you do not even accept as your duty to be there (Chibok), at the scene of the disaster?’ And I asked him, did you actually utter those words attributed to you?
His response remains a riddle to me till today. His exact words to me, not easily forgotten I assure you, were ‘Kampala tie niyen,’ meaning that is your own Kampala.”
He said Jonathan waited for nearly three weeks before accepting the fact that over 200 schoolgirls had been abducted in Chibok.
“He said the opposition was only using this to discredit his government, and precious days to have rescued the girls were lost,” he said.
Soyinka explained that the origin of ‘Kampala tie niyen’ takes us back to the nation’s recent ‘Kampala’ that is the Dapchi abduction.
In the Yoruba parlance, Kampala are hand-dyed fabrics using traditional wax methods. And when one is told that ‘Kampala tie niyen,’ it loosely means the ‘Kampala’ is for the person to hand-dye by himself. Via: Thecable

People will stop shouting over allowance of senators if I reveal what govs earn – Peter Obi

The former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, says what governors earn in Nigeria is immoderate.
Speaking as a panelist at the dialogue organised by Ripples Centre for Data and Investigative Journalism in Lagos on Thursday, Obi told the audience that if he revealed how much a Nigerian governor earns, the outrage would be hotter than what trailed the N13.5 million monthly pay of senators.
Thecable quoted him as saying: “None of you knows what a governor earns, quote me anywhere if you know you won’t be here. It is something you can’t imagine.
You just know the one of senators, and you are shouting, but what if you know that of the governors? America’s GDP is way above Nigeria’s but an American senator earns $174,000 (about N50 million) a year and you can imagine what his Nigerian counterpart earns in a month.
In America, governors earn according to their state. The governor of California is the highest paid in America, and he earns $192, 000. The smallest state earns $70, 000.
But in Nigeria, I can tell you because I’ve been there, the cost of just keeping convoys alone is in millions.
While in power, I reduced the vehicles in my convoy to four and I never used a bulletproof car. I asked them, why are all these vehicles following me, and nobody was able to explain to me.
I asked them why do we need to spend about N30 million fueling these vehicles that 60% are empty when following me? What is the essence of a bulletproof car? Anyone who wants to kill you would come when you are out of the car. For eight years I didn’t use, and they didn’t kill me.”

Sayou had been invited to the church by a friend on September 9, 2017, during a crusade of the church. On getting to the church, a guest minister, identified as Apostle Chris, from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, convinced him to give the sum of N20,000 and his SUV.

According to the victim: “The guest pastor gave me honey to drink and mandated me to do change of ownership of the vehicle immediately. Thereafter, I went to a shop, bought a nylon bag and packed all my belongings and went home.
When I woke up the next day, I started looking for the car, then my wife reminded him that I had sown it as a seed in the church. After several months, things got worse for me.
So, I asked the pastor to return my vehicle. When he refused, I reported to the police. He later said he had sold the car which I bought N3.9m, for N1.5m.” Upon his arraignment, Magistrate, Spiff, ordered Abiekunogho to produce the guest minister in court at the next hearing on April 4, 2018.

Prince William went by a different name at university to keep a low profile

When Prince William got into University, the press agreed that the Prince who had lived all his life in the spotlight will be given a break and allowed to study away from the spotlight.
But it didn't end there. As there was still a lot of interest in the British heir, he used a different name while he was in university to keep a low profile. The alias he used was Steve.
He officially enrolled at the University of St Andrews under his real name William Wales, but all his classmates used the nickname to prevent any unwanted attention.
Prince William studied history of art before switching to geography. In June 2005, at the age of 23, he graduated alongside Kate Middleton, his girlfriend at the time and now his wife.

NSCDC arrests school teacher for writing JAMB for his brother in Abuja

NSCDC arrests school teacher for writing JAMB for his brother in Abuja

Timothy Samuel, a school teacher has been arrested by officers of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the Gwagwalada area of Abuja for impersonating his sibling, Samson Samuel, in the ongoing 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The school teacher was reportedly caught at the Air Mass Computer Institute in the Madalla area of Niger State by a team comprising operatives of the NSCDC and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. It was gathered that Timothy’s mother had persuaded him to sit the examination on behalf of his brother, who had taken ill.

The JAMB Supervisor at the Madalla Computer-Based Test Centre, Sakina Tafida, said the suspect evaded screening and sneaked into the examination hall.

“We, however, found that the number of exam slips that we collected after the fingerprint screening was less than the number of candidates in the hall. He actually skipped the fingerprint device and the photograph on the slip he gave us later was that of his brother, Samson,” Tafida said.

The JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who confirmed the arrest, said the mother of the two children was to blame.  He said, “Parents need to disassociate themselves from this shameful attitude. It is against any type of parenting that you want to inculcate the spirit of deceit into your children.”

Deadly Russian spy poison was "planted in daughter's suitcase before she left Moscow"

Deadly Russian spy poison was "planted in daughter

Intelligence agencies now believe that the nerve agent used to poison former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia was planted in the daughter's suitcase before she left Moscow.
Intelligence agencies believe it is the most likely scenario for the attack on Sergei Skripal, 66, and his daughter Yulia, 33. The double agent's daughter came to visit the week before the pair was found slumped on a bench in Salisbury, England.

According to the Telegraph, senior sources are "convinced" the Novichok nerve agent was placed in Yulia's luggage via clothing, cosmetics or a gift and was opened in Britain. It makes the job of pinpointing who was behind the attack even more difficult, as the hit squad would not even have had to enter the country.
Sergei and Yulia remain critically ill in hospital.
