UTME: Candidate who hid phone in her pant, arrested

Officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested one miss Udoh Akpabio and her accomplice for alleged examination malpractice in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Akpabio was caught with a phone concealed in her underwear, while the examination was on at Baptist Academy, Karu, FCT. Also caught was Andrew Etziuzala, said to be aiding Akpabio in the cheating process.
They were caught with the aid of CCTV which sends live transmission of activities going on within the examination halls. While parading both suspects, FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Patrick Ukpen, said Andrew introduced Akpabio into the chain of cheating during examinations.
The Commandant explained that while the examination was going on, Andrew, a student of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, was busy sending text messages of supposed answers to the questions she was expected to answer.
Akpabio, who said she applied to study Business Administration, added that she had sat for JAMB for more than four times and had been unable to secure admission. “My last score was 179,” she said.
Etziuala who was sending answers to her phone explained that the answers were generated by another member of the syndicate operating from a Business Centre in Jikwoyi.
He said the suspect at large, allegedly hacked into JAMB examination questions and generated answers which were forwarded to him (Etziuala), who in turn forward them to Akpabio in the examination hall. 📷: Premiumtimes

Sharia court orders tailor to pay for missing clothes or go to jail

Sharia court orders tailor to pay for missing clothes or go to?jail?

Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna today ordered a 30-year-old tailor, Umar Daji to within a week refund N19,200 to his customer, Fatima Sufyan or risk being sent to jail.

Daji was dragged to the court for misplacing the complainant’s two-set of clothes including service charge.

Delivering judgment, the judge, Musa Saad held that the defendant was not in the position to determine the price of the fabrics saying “I listened to arguments of the parties, the defendant is hereby ordered to within a week refund N19, 200 to the complainant or risk being sent to jail.”

Earlier, Sufyan said the defendant had neither delivered her dresses nor made refunds of the money worth. She said that the cost of sewing and the worth of the materials stood at N19, 200. “I gave him two materials to sew for me last year which he told me would be ready in two weeks, I came back after two weeks to get the dress but they were not ready.

“He had apologised and asked me to give him one more week to finish it, but he never did’’, she told the court. Sufyan further said she had earlier reported the matter to the Civilian Joint Task Force of Unguwan Muazu in Kaduna.

According to her, Daji had at the time undertaken to pay her the N19, 200 for both the materials and service fee, but has reneged on the agreement. “I want the court to assist me in getting back my money as it is obvious the materials are now nowhere to be found’’, Sufyan said. Daji however, opposed the claim made by the complainant of selling the materials, adding that they got lost with other clothes. He also disagreed with the N19, 200 being claimed by the complainant for the clothes and service fees. “By my calculations, the total amount stands at N15, 700’’, he said.

Agriculture is living up to our expectation as major job creator - President Buhari

Agriculture is living up to our expectation as major job creator - President Buhari

President Buhari has expressed satisfaction with the growing role of agriculture as a strategy for jobs creation among young Nigerians.

Speaking while receiving Boukekri Rmilli, the Foreign Minister of Tunisia at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, President Buhari said his administration will increase its support for agriculture as a mechanism for jobs creation.

“We are trying very hard to provide jobs, for our youths. We are investing heavily in agriculture. Following the uncertainty in the oil market and the huge unemployment situation in the country, we chose to put our fate in agriculture. I am glad that our young people are accepting agriculture instead of waiting for white-collar jobs. They are out there sweating it out in the sun, making a living. Agriculture is the way to go, even when we are realising this almost belatedly,” the President said.

He added that the administration recognises the progress Tunisia has made in agriculture, tourism and medical health, and will shortly, from now, raise a team to visit that country to identify sectors in which the two countries can work together.

In this regard, he expressed happiness with the resuscitation of the Nigeria – Tunisia Binational Commission which was attended by a large delegation of businessmen and prospective investors.

Rmilli, who is also the leader of the delegation of businessmen, informed the President that his country is anxious to grow trade relationships with Nigeria. He expressed satisfaction with the large number of local business men who turned up for the Nigeria – Tunisia Business Forum on Monday in Abuja.

The Minister delivered a special message to President Buhari, in which Mr. Beji Caid Essebsi, President of Tunisia, congratulated the Nigerian leader on his achievements in security, economy and role in Africa.

Nigeria Police Force denies reports that Aso Rock police officers staged protest over unpaid allowances since 2015

Nigeria Police Force denies reports that Aso Rock police officers staged protest over unpaid allowances since 2015

The Nigeria Police Force has denied media reports that some police personnel attached to the state house Abuja, have protested the non-payment of their allowance since 2015.

A statement by the force spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, said the report is untrue and mischievious. Read the statement below...
The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to an online news credited to Sahara Reporters captioned “VILLA POLICE PROTEST UNPAID ALLOWANCES SINCE 2015”
2. The Force wishes to categorically state that salaries and allowances of Police Personnel across ranks throughout Police Formations, Departments and detachments including those attached to the Presidential Villa are being paid as at when due, and on time. Special and ad-hoc duties allowances are also promptly paid on completion of such duties.
3. The report was carefully studied and was found out to be outright falsehood, unfounded, mischievous and fake news. There was no time the Policemen in the Villa or anywhere else in the Country protested over any issue relating to payment of allowances or whatsoever. Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined organization and its personnel are not allowed to engage in any act that can subject the Force to public ridicule or embarrassment.
4. Furthermore, it is incumbent on the Force to educate the writer of the report that Police personnel’s emolument includes salary and other allowances, and in addition all personnel of the Force enjoy insurance and assurance cover provided for by the Force and the Federal Government to cater for recognized and some unrecognized risks they are exposed to while carrying out core Police duties on daily basis. Also, no Senior Police Officer in the Villa or anywhere else mismanaged or infringed on payment of allowances meant for the Police Personnel serving in the Villa.
5. It is pertinent for the public to know that no Police personnel serving in the villa has complained officially or otherwise of unpaid allowance since 2015.
6. Consequently, members of the General Public are implored to disregard and discountenance the report in its entirety as untrue, misleading, mischievous and a fake news.

7. While the Nigeria Police Force is assuring the media of continuous supports and cooperation, they are implored to always verify facts before publishing in order not to cause panic, tension and misinformation in the minds of the Public.
