Nigerian Army destroys Boko Haram bomb factory, kills several terrorists

The Nigerian Military has destroyed a Boko Haram Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making-factory while several terrorists were killed in the process.

The Deputy Director of Public Relations at the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement he released today. According to him, the soldiers recorded the feat on Tuesday February 6th as part of earlier successes made in the conduct of Operation DEEP PUNCH II in the last four weeks.

Colonel Nwachukwu noted that the offensive and clearance operation has led to severe depletion of the terrorists and destruction of several of their enclaves in the fringes of Lake Chad and the Sambisa forest in Borno State. In the course of the operation, the troops, closely supported by the Nigerian Air Force further exploited deep into the far ends of Camp Zairo and aggressively carried out an offensive against insurgents defending a major IED making factory.
The gallant soldiers successfully engaged the terrorists, demobilised their vehicle-borne IEDs and killed quite a number of them, as well as captured the IED making factory. Similarly, they recovered 88 gas cylinders, one laptop computer, and one 100m ultra high-frequency hand-held radio (UHF  HH Radio). Other items recovered include one Motorola GP 180, theodolite and two Global Positioning Systems (GPS), while the troops destroyed 22 motorcycles, 18 bicycles and provisions store.
The Theatre Command spokesman said the unprecedented success has increased the morale of the soldiers.

'Aircraft doors cannot fall off without conscious efforts to open it' - Dana Airline reacts

This morning, a Twitter user narrated the story of how a Dana plane's exit door came off as the plane touched down.

According to the twitter user who shared the story, he said, 'flew Dana. Exit door was unstable throughout the flight. As we touched down it fell off'.

Reacting to the allegation, Dana Airline issued a statement saying, 'Aircraft doors cannot fall off without conscious efforts to open it'.

See the full statement below...
Dana Air’s attention has been drawn to some online publication that the door of one of our aircraft fell off after landing and whilst taxing in Abuja today.  We wish to state categorically that this could never have happened without a conscious effort by a passenger to open it.

By design, the emergency exit door of our aircraft are plug-type  backed by pressure, which ordinary cannot fall off without tampering or conscious effort to open by a crew member or passenger.  We also wish to enlighten the author that, when an aircraft is airborne, it is fully pressurized and there was no way the seat or door could have been ‘shaking’ as insinuated.

A thorough inspection was however carried out on the said aircraft upon landing in Abuja, by our engineers and a team from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and no issue was reported.  There was also no threat to safety at any point.  The flight was only delayed for 8 minutes as we needed to demonstrate to the regulators that the safety and comfort of our guests is at the centre of our operations.  We wish to apologize to our guests for any inconvenience such report may have caused and for the slight delay on the return service to Lagos.  A thorough investigation of the concerned passenger is ongoing.  As one of the oldest and most experienced airline in Nigeria, we remain committed to global best practices.

Photos: EFCC arrests Fake American Colonel

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested one Barr. Mike Nkwocha and a self-professed Colonel of the United State Army, Richardson Obasogie for impersonating EFCC operatives to obtain $10,000 by false pretense.
Photos: EFCC arrests Fake American Colonel
The victim had petitioned the EFCC alleging that one Ladan Mustapha who claimed to be an operative of EFCC, gave him a call informing him that there was a petition against him which bordered on illegal acquisition of assets in different parts of the country and that he was currently a subject of investigation.
Partnering with Nkwocha, a meeting was arranged, in which $200,000 was demanded in order to help “kill” the case, but $15,000 was later agreed upon as payment. An initial payment of $5,000 was eventually paid in cash to Nkwocha while he continued to pressure him for the balance of $10,000.

However, suspecting foul play, after a retired personnel of the DSS told the petitioner that EFCC operatives don’t demand money to carry out its official duties, the EFCC was petitioned.
Acting on the petition, the EFCC later arrested Nkwocha who confessed that Obasogie was the “brain” behind the fraud.
A search warrant was executed on their houses which resulted in the recovery of: letter-head papers of the United State Government, Department of state services (DSS), Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), Independent and National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Bayelsa State Government and one computer system.
The computer system and other electronic devices found on them have been forwarded to the forensic department for further analysis.
Nkwocha and Obasogie who were both arrested on November 27, 2017 will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
Meanwhile, operatives are intensifying search Mustapha Lada, who is currently at large.

Benue killings: House of Reps pass vote of no confidence on IGP Idris Ibrahim, demand his resignation

Benue killings: House of Reps pass vote of no confidence on IGP Idris Ibrahim, demand his resignation

The House of Representatives today passed a vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of PoliceIbrahim Idris. The lawmakers passed their vote while deliberating on the repeated killings in Benue state. The lawmakers called on President Buhari to immediately fire the police chief and replace him with a more professional police officer.

While raising the motion, Danburam Nuhu, from Kano state, drew the attention of the lawmakers to the “complicity” of the Nigeria police in the political clashes between supporters of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje and the past governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Nuhu described as “unfortunate” the rising cases of thuggery in the state, saying it is sponsored by some politicians.

“In fact, the recent thuggery experience in Kano was championed by q current high ranking member of the hallow chamber. We must use all legislative instruments available to this house to discourage it in the strongest terms and curb thus barbaric act of terror.”
Speaking on the motion, another lawmaker, John Dyegh, from Benue state, accused the police of not tackling the herdsmen/farmers crisis in the state as they should. Dyegh said the residents of the state have alleged that the suspected herdsmen killers were camped in a local government area in Nasarrawa state “and a whole IGP claimed he was ignorant of such.”
“The intelligence reports from security agencies across the country were clear that these killers were still there. The IGP later went and said there was no such thing. It is obvious the IGP is incapable of his job. So I am amending the prayers to be that the president should replace the IGP with a more professional police officer.”.
The motion was so amended.

Lagos Police command arrests fake lawyer who has been practicing for over 15-years

Lagos Police command arrests fake lawyer who has been practicing for over 15-years

A fake "Barrister" Chris Elisha who had been practicing as a lawyer for the past fifteen years without being spotted has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

Nemesis caught up with him yesterday 6th of February, 2018, at Ojo Magistrate court where he appeared on behalf of an accused person but found it difficult to move a motion for the variation of the bail condition of his client.

His predicament did not go unnoticed by one Barrister Nnamdi Samuel Nwafor who challenged his qualification. According to Bar. Nnamdi Nwafor, a newly qualified lawyer that is yet to cut his teeth at the bar would have been able to move a motion without issues.

The hot argument between both men attracted the attention of other lawyers and the court duty police men. The officers took the suspect to the nearby Ojo Police Station where he confessed that he is a mere "charge and bail lawyer" who had been practising for the past fifteen years.

He claimed he was more into corporate law practice and does little of litigation. He stated further that he read law at Eastern Ukrainian University, in the former Soviet Union but had no certificate to show for it.

"Barrister " Chris Elisha told the police that he is a native of Avodim Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia state.

The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation at the X- Squad Section of the State Police Command Headquarters and would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
In view of the above development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, warned that police men are in every nook and cranny of the state and have been mandated to apprehend anybody perpetrating illegality no matter how highly placed.

Court rejects fresh bail request of Maryam Sanda who killed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello

Court rejects fresh bail request of Maryam Sanda who killed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello

Justice Yusuf Haliru of the Federal high court Abuja today struck out a fresh bail application filed by Maryam Sanda, the pregnant mother of a six month old baby who stabbed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, to death at their home in Abuja in November last year.
Maryam's counsel, Daudu Joseph today told the court to grant her bail because of her pregnancy and the fact that she needed to take care of her 6-month-old baby.
“My lord, the new fact is that she is three months pregnant and I have done my research,” Daudu told the court.
However, the prosecuting counsel, James Idachaba, asked the court to reject the application on grounds that it constituted an abuse of court of process, because Sanda's counsel had failed to withdraw her notice of appeal challenging the December 14th ruling declining her bail.

Halilu ruled in favour of the prosecutor, saying it would amount to toeing “a path of destruction” to grant Sanda bail since the applicant’s notice of appeal against the court was still pending.
“It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for his (Daudu’s) argument to sway this court. The argument has not in anyway swayed me. The application is liable to be struck out and it is accordingly struck out.”the judge ruled
Meanwhile Maryam and her baby are being remanded at the Suleja prison.

Photos: Man almost lynched by angry mob after he stabbed another man to death during fight over ownership of a prostitute

A 25-year-old man was rescued from street justice by armed police officers on Tuesday, after he stabbed a man to death in dispute over a commercial sex worker in Zimbabwe.
According to the Chronicle, the suspect Tungamirayi Kokerai met the 24-year-old deceased while he was walking with a sex worker at around 3AM in Phakama Suburb.

Kokerai demanded to know why the now deceased was walking with his girlfriend which resulted in an altercation.
“The now deceased was coming from a night club with a sex worker that he had hired for the night. On their way they met Kokerai who accused the now deceased of walking with his girlfriend" a source said.
“The two men started quarrelling and Kokerai drew a knife which he used to stab the now deceased four times. The now deceased who was seriously injured went to a nearby house to seek help but he didn’t get any response and bled to death while leaning against the durawall,” said the source.
Police officers, who were escorting him to the police station had to seek refuge at a nearby house as the mob comprising the deceased relatives, friends and residents were baying for his blood.

Police were stuck at the house for about two hours before they could escort the suspect to the police station.
More armed police officers as well as anti-riot police and those from the dog section were later called to the scene to stop the mob from breaking into the house in which the suspect was hiding.
Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Loveness Mangena, who confirmed the murder which occurred at Phakama Suburb, appealed to members of the public not to resort to violence when resolving disputes.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a murder case where a 24-year-old Binga man whose name is being withheld as his next of kin have not been advised, was stabbed to death. He was stabbed four times with a knife and he bled to death.
“An informant found his body at around 6AM at a house close to where he was stabbed and reported the matter to the police. We have since arrested a suspect Tungamirayi Kokerai who stays in Garikai Suburb in Gwanda and he is assisting police with investigations,” she said.

The deceased’s relatives who were part of the mob that stood guard to stop Kokerai from leaving the house where police took him to seek refuge, said they wanted to deal with him themselves as they alleged they did not have confidence in the police.
“We want to deal with him ourselves because police are very corrupt and they will just pretend to arrest him but he will be walking scot free two days later" One of them said.
"It’s painful that our relative was killed in such a way and his assailant should pay for what he did. He is a murderer and he deserves to be killed himself. We are not leaving this place and we won’t allow him to leave unless we have dealt with him,” she added.
When the cops finally escorted Kokerai into a police vehicle after several attempts to negotiate with the deceased’s relatives the mob threw stones at him and tried to attack him but police officers managed to drive off safely.

PDP reacts to the reinstatement of NHIS boss Usman Yusuf, says presidency stinks of corruption

PDP reacts to the reinstatement of NHIS boss Usman Yusuf, says presidency stinks of corruption

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as shocking, scandalous and a mockery of justice Tuesday’s recall by President Muhammadu Buhari of the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NIHS), Prof. Usman Yusuf while he was still being quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged N919 million fraud.
The party also mocked the All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled Federal Government for the cover up of the cabinet minister reported to have bought a property worth N280 million in Abuja from alleged corrupt enrichment.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in statement on Wednesday said the Presidency stinks of corruption and has lost all claim of fighting graft, as long as it continues to protect indicted officials of the APC administration.
The party said it was disgusting that the same Presidency brandishing a medal of ‘African Union Anti-Corruption Champion’ would short-circuit the processes, arm-twist anti-graft agencies and pull out an indicted government official, while he was still guest at the EFCC where he was being grilled for his alleged maleficence.
This is a government official probed and thoroughly indicted for abuse of office and fraud to the tune of N919 million by a committee set up by the Minister of Health, comprising of senior officials of the Health ministry, Department of State Services, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) and which report was submitted to the President last September.
The report detailed Yusuf as a public servant who “portrayed a holier than thou attitude but at the background, milked the agency dry” by ganging up with other fraudulent elements to fleece the NHIS to the tune of over N919 million through fraudulent procurements, while name-dropping on the President.
Instead of allowing for the conclusion of investigation and eventual prosecution by EFCC, the Presidency halted the process and rewarded the indicted official with a recall from suspension, even without any recourse to the supervising minister simply because Prof. Yusuf is not only of the APC but also known to be very close to the President.
The only way the Presidency can redeem itself from this particular scandal is to immediately return Prof. Yusuf to the EFCC and allow the law to take it course if it is actually fighting corruption in Nigeria.
In the same vein, we challenge the Presidency to immediately name the minister indicted for corrupt enrichment and bring him out for investigation and prosecution in line with the law, the party further said.
The PDP therefore invited Nigerians and the international community to continue to note the insincerity and deception of the APC government especially as the nation approaches the 2019 general elections.

Photos: RRS arrests 40-year-old man for stealing colleague

Officers of the Lagos state police command's Rapid Response Squad RRS, have arrested 40-year-old Akan Victor, for stealing his colleagues phone. Victor works at a Chinese restaurant somewhere in Lagos. On 31st December, 2017, at around 10:00 p.m, Victor was at work when he spotted his colleague’s phone and kept it to himself instead of turning it over to Cynthia, his colleague in the office.
At a point that day, Victor had to separate Cynthia, the owner of the phone from fighting a suspected colleague. The suspect took the phone home and held on to it for a month. Occasionally, he would remove its sim card, insert his own and make few calls with it. Victor’s wife, who he told the phone belonged to a colleague, would remind him to return the phone but Victor never budged.
Photos: RRS arrests 40-year-old man for stealing colleague
On 1st February, 2018, Victor was tracked to his residence in Ijaiye by RRS Team. When inetrrogated, he denied being in possession of the android phone. Victor kept on denying having the phone but intermittently, his wife reminded him of the phone she was seeing with him. He shut the lady up with shouts.
His landlord, the Baale of the area and neighbours, who had gathered in the ensuing scenario, felt it was a police frame up. And they were resisting his being taken away. Victor sought permission to change his dress. He was allowed. But victor had a sinister motive to destroy the evidence. He cleverly wrapped the phone in question along with his trousers and flung it out through the window.

Unfortunately, the phone landed on a car in the adjoining compound. A lady who saw the direction the phone came from brought it to the gathering outside that somebody threw it through a window of Victor’s building.
Victor’s wife confirmed the phone and neighbours who had seen the phone with Victor equally confirmed it to be his phone.
Cynthia, the owner of the phone and Victor’s colleagues and employer have all confirmed the flying phone was Cynthia’s.
