Why we won’t end strike now – ASUP

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has said that it had no option but to continue its strike action in the new year because the Federal Government failed to release the N15bn revitalisation fund for the polytechnics promised in 2017.
The National President of ASUP, Usman Dutse, stated this in an interview with our correspondent on Friday, noting that the government, in the 2009 agreement, had promised about N603bn to polytechnics but it was agreed in 2017, that due to paucity of funds N15bn should be released to show the government’s commitment.
The polytechnic union said it hoped that on January 10, 2019, when its leaders meet with the Federal Government to review negotiations, there would be positive responses and commitment from the government.
ASUP began its nationwide strike on December 12, 2018, citing the failures of the Federal Government to implement the 2009, 2013 and the 2017 agreements which it reached with the union.
Dutse, told our correspondent that some state governments were also culpable in owing salaries for several months to polytechnic lecturers, adding that the concerned states must pay the shortfalls before the strike would be suspended.
He said, “In the report of the NEEDS assessment carried out, the government initially promised to release N603bn to polytechnics for revitalisation. Because of the long delay, the prices of items changed and there were new public polytechnics established, so the money was reviewed to over N800bn. At the time there was no clear roadmap by the government on how to allocate the money to the institutions in tranches.
“But in 2017, at the last agreement, the government said it was facing paucity of funds and other economic challenges, therefore it would commit itself to a revalisation fund of N20bn to universities, N15bn to polytechnics and N15bn to colleges of education.
“Since 2017, the money has not been released to polytechnics. It is after this initial release that we can then talk about the modalities to secure the other tranches. That was the position we took in the last 2017 agreement. The N15bn has not been released. It is one of the main reasons for our agitation,” Dutse said.

Struggling Ligue 1 club Dijon on Monday sacked Olivier Dall’Oglio as coach after more than six years at the club.
Dall’Oglio oversaw Dijon’s return to the top flight in 2016 and had started this season with three wins.
But 12 matches followed without victory before the club’s fourth win of the season, against rock-bottom Guingamp on December 5. That was followed, however, by three straight losses that has seen the club plummet to 18th in the 20-strong league.
Assistant coach David Linares will take over until a new coach is named, the club said.

Photos: Suspected female thief burnt to death in Cross Rivers

A suspected female thief was set ablaze by a mob in Obudu, Cross Rivers state yesterday December 29th. Facebook user, Anya Vincent, who shared the story online, said residents of the area alleged that the lady assists robbers who terrorise the area. Read what he wrote below
''This happened yesterday in obudu , Cross River State. She was burnt alive for allegedly aiding a group of robbers over time in terrorising residents and also killing innocent lives. That's their version of the story. I'm not trying to justify her actions if the story is true. I'm saying that JUNGLE JUSTICE is wrong. No one should take the law into their hands. She should have been arrested and handed over to to the police. She deserved a fair trial.
Before you burn that person alive remember that if he or she were to be your loved one, you would plead for the law to take it's course.
Most times these persons are even innocent.....Jungle justice is wrong.
I'm saying NO TO JUNGLE JUSTICE.

''Only Nigerians do this & soon might start to infect other Neighboring countries in africa with this deadly virus ? ....a lot of other African countries experience hardship just like Nigeria but whatever support they give to their artistes is truly genuine from their heart & they expect nothing in return...but in the recent day Nigeria fans might not want to listen to a good song except you do give Away’s & song challenge & after the give Away’s & song challenge the songs still don’t make it to the top....i don’t know how we got to this place but i am going to predict something right here and right now & that is, if we continue this way then i foresee serious danger & damage that might be hard to repair....I don’t care who gets offended by this, we hate the truth & i really can’t be bothered....few years from now when the damage is done some of y’all might remember morachi made a post regarding this situation...so until then let’s all pretend like it’s all good when it’s not & keep up with the suffering and smiling ??

A woman is currently at large after hacking her husband to death with an axe during dispute over Christmas gift.
Homicide detectives in Mutare are looking for the woman from Chikanga in Mutare, Zimbabwe, who disappeared soon after axing her husband to death following a domestic dispute on December 24.

Anesu Mafokosho is alleged to have axed Vitalis Mudhumo, 26, at around 3pm soon after the couple returned home from the city centre where they had gone shopping. The dispute which ended in the death of the husband was sparked by gifts which the couple had bought for their child for Christmas.

According to local reports, the couple's union was experiencing some problems and the unresolved marital dispute was threatening their marriage.
On December 24 the Vitalis met his wife Anesu at the Stop Sign in Chikanga 2. The two drove to Edgars Mutare where they bought their three-year-old daughter’s clothes. After shopping, the deceased and his wife went back home. On getting home, Anesu's younger sister, who was in the dinning room, heard the couple arguing outside the yard for about 45 minutes.
Moments later they got into the house and entered into their bedroom. In the bedroom, Vitalis started packing his clothes saying he was moving out. His wife begged him to change his mind to no avail.
The situation degenerated into chaos resulting in the wife axing the deceased three time on the neck.
Soon after committing the offence, Mafokosho fled home and sent a text message to her sister telling her to go see what she had done in the bedroom.
On getting into the room, the younger sister found Vitalis bleeding and convulsing on the bed.

Women flock to shrine of native doctor who claims he can restore virginity

Women flock to shrine of native doctor who claims he can restore virginity

A native doctor who claims he can restore women's virginity has seen a great number of women coming to ask for his service ever since his abilities became public knowledge.

The native doctor identified as Erdington Virimayi from Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, claims to be both a prophet and a traditional doctor. He says his abilities include locking couples, giving enriching charms as well as enlarging men’s manhood.

Erdington Virimayi, popularly known as Doctor Samanyika, said restoring virginity was a very easy task for him.
He said:
I restore virginity to girls as long as they follow what I tell them to do. It’s just most men know me for enlarging manhood to the sizes of their choices but I also have a service for women.
He said he once enlarged a soldier’s penis and the soldier became the talk of the town for the size of his manhood.
He boasted:
He came back to me and thanked me for the service saying girls were falling over him after the service. That is how we do it.
Virimayi, a member of the Mugodhi Apostolic Church said there was nothing wrong with mixing traditional practices and Christianity. He said he reads a Bible for his clients as he is both a prophet and a native doctor.
He said:
I started healing in 1989 when I was in Grade 7 when I was receiving prophetic visions. I was then taken by a mermaid and I was initiated into traditional healing.
So I was a prophet until 2000 and now I am both a prophet and a traditional healer.
Virimayi claims he is so successful that he has clients from different countries, with some of his clients coming from as far as South Africa, Botswana and Namibia.
