Empty oxygen tank: Report indicts medical workers for death of 2-year-old

Some medical personnel at the Ikorodu General Hospital, Lagos State, have been found complicit in the death of a sick two-year-old boy, Christopher Mike-Ozugha, Punchng reports.
.
It was learnt that a panel set up to investigate an allegation bordering on professional negligence raised by Christopher’s parents indicted the workers in its report.
.
It was learnt that the panel comprised directors from the state Ministry of Health, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria from the Ministry of Justice, and principal officials from the hospital, among others.
.
Punchng had reported that Christopher had difficulty in breathing and was referred from a private hospital, Olive Clime, to the general hospital. He was admitted to the government facility around 1am on August 20.
.
The kid was said to have been placed for about 30 minutes on an oxygen tank that had run out of oxygen before a nurse, who came to examine him, discovered the error.
.
Although the deceased was transferred to the central oxygen in the hospital ward, the parents said the oversight was discovered too late.
.
The mother, Esther Mike-Ozugha, had also alleged that a nurse, who was later identified as a caregiver, shunned her each time she drew her attention to Christopher’s deteriorating health.
.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Jide Idris, had earlier rejected a report submitted by the hospital management and directed the Health Service Commission to conduct “a full investigation” into the matter.
.
A source privy to the investigation. said: “The panel members pleaded with the parents and sought forgiveness on behalf of the indicted medical personnel. The parents and others present were enjoined not to speak with the press. The committee had submitted its report to the health commissioner.”
.
When contacted, the couple declined comments on the report, saying they had taken solace in God.

...We’ll utilise Facility To Ensure Effective Law Enforcement - CP Assures
Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday handed over 120 new 5KVA generating sets to the Lagos State Police Command to power all police formations across the State, with a pledge of continuous support to security agencies to ensure optimal performance.

Speaking at Lagos House in Ikeja while handing over the generating sets to the police, the Governor reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensure the enforcement of rule of law and safety of lives and property in the State, just as he said that his vision was for the State to be among the safest places to live and work in Africa.

Governor Ambode, who was represented at the brief handing over ceremony by the Chairman of Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Mr Oye-Hassan Odukale, said the security of residents and investors remain one of the cardinal objectives of his administration, and that government would not relent in coming up with initiatives and programmes to guarantee safety of the people.
He said the generating sets were procured by the Fund to ensure that police formations in the State work optimally in their mandate of safeguarding lives and property.
According to him: “Lagos State is the safest State and we hope to make the State to be among the safest States in Africa which is our objective at the Fund. Anything about security is given high priority by our administration. Lagosians are now feeling safe. The safety that we are experiencing don’t come cheap but I like to assure that at the Fund, we are always willing to move at any time to ensure that we keep Lagos safe,” he said.
The Governor also congratulated the new Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Imohimi Edgal, and pledged to work with him to ensure the safety of the people.
He said aside the provision of the generating sets, the LSSTF had also been mandated to carry out the installations of the new equipment in all the Divisions and Area Commands in the State.
Besides, Governor Ambode urged police officers to take good care of the generating sets and use them for the purpose meant for the overall benefit and safety of the people.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Dr Abdulrazak Balogun said the generating sets would be distributed across the 107 Police Divisions and 13 Area Commands in the State.
He said the procurement of the generating sets was in furtherance of the Light Up Lagos Project of the present administration aimed at ensuring that every nook and cranny of the State are well lit.
He said: “The procurement is also in tandem with Governor Ambode’s vision of a secured and investment-friendly Lagos. Police formations are critical to securing lives and property in the State and it is very important that these stations function optimally. This is why the Lagos State Security Council recommended the provision of power generating sets for these stations and the State Security Trust Fund expeditiously approved the expenditure.”
Responding, the State’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Imohimi Edgal thanked Governor Ambode for the gesture, saying that the generating sets could not have come at a better time.
While assuring that the generating sets would be put to optimal use, Edgal said that the facility would go a long way to ensuring that the divisional and area commands are well lit up to enable them effectively enforce the laws of the land.
“You can imagine the confidence members of the public will have if divisional headquarters and area commands are lit with the confidence that their matters would be earnestly addressed.
“Power is very essential. Our communication gadgets, especially phones need to be charged. You cannot function anywhere, you can't take complains, you can't give directives to field officers when there is no power. These generating sets are very valuable to us,” the CP said.

A source told Dailymail: "Kevin is with Sharina three or four times a week, often staying over. They go to the gym together, they go out to restaurants together as if they're a normal couple. But then he goes home to Wendy as if everything is normal there, too. He's living a double life."
The source continued: "Kevin loves Sharina just as much as he loves his wife so it's difficult for him to let go of either of them. Sharina has put a lot of pressure on him to leave Wendy and he has made certain promises, but will he follow through?"

Kalakuta Books drops The Biafra Manifesto: The book that can stop a war

Kalakuta Books drops The Biafra Manifesto: The book that can stop a war
What is Biafra? Why is Biafra a beautiful dream to some, an imperative hope to some and an ugly, hateful and hopeless rhetoric to some?

What really is behind the movement?

Does the agitation for Biafra mean another civil war in Nigeria?

What is the motive behind Nnamdi Kanu's struggle for secession? How can the situation be resolved without escalation?

Following the launch of Operation Python Dance 2 by the Nigerian military forces Nigerians were suddenly confronted with the fact that the Biafra agitation must now be resolved with sensitivity, to avoid bloody escalation. Does the sudden designation of IPOB as a terrorist organisation mean the agitation is dead and buried?

The Biafra Manifesto examines what Nigeria should do to avoid political catastrophe.

Writer and researcher, Odega shawa, has meticulously put together a book that has the potential to resolve the conflict generated by Biafra without the waste of innocent blood. The language is simple, to make sure that everybody understands what the solution is.

In a world where global and conscious reaction to conflict rises post scriptum The Biafra Manifesto raises a cry for the world to stop and look before the storm, not after; as it did in Rwanda in 1994. There is now only one power on earth that can stop the movement of Biafra from escalating to the next devastating carnage in Africa. The Biafra Manifesto clearly identifies what that power is – and how best to use it, before it is too late.
