Buhari's administration is working, results are showing- Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, says

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said the Buhari Administration is working and the results are showing in the various sectors of the economy. The Minister stated this at the 4th Annual Conference of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) in Kano on Wednesday, noting that pulling Nigeria out of recession was not by accident.
"Taking Nigeria out of recession did not happen by accident. It is the culmination of months of hard work by the Administration and fidelity to its well-articulated economic policies, especially the Strategic Implementation Economic Recovery (2016) and the Growth Plan (ERGP) that was launched on 5th April, 2017," he said.
Alhaji Mohammed listed some of the ''incrementally-positive steps'' that got Nigeria out of recession as including the reversal of the consistent slowdown since 20014 to a level where the GDP finally grew by 0.55% in the second quarter of 2017. This positive growth is attributable to both the oil and non-oil sectors of the economy. Growth in the oil sector, which has been negative since Q4 2015, was positive in Q2 2017. It rose by 1.64% as compared to -15.60 in Q1 2017, an increase of up to 17 percentage points. The non-oil sector grew by 0.45% in Q2 2017, a second successive quarterly growth after growing 0.72% in Q1 2017. In particular, improvement in the non-oil sector was driven principally by strong growth in agriculture and solid minerals sector, and reversal in the previous contraction of the manufacturing and construction sector. This shows that the government's economic diversification programme is working,'' he said.
The Minister listed other positive developments as a fall in the inflation rate from 18% to 16% as of July 2017; the rise in exports, coupled with a decrease in imports, which brought the country’s trade balance to ?719.4 billion, up from ?671.3 billion; increase in capital inflow that brought the total value of capital imported into Nigeria in the second quarter of 2017 to $1,792.3 million, representing a growth of 95.02 percent; increase in foreign reserves to a 30-month high of $31.8 billion in July 2017; and appreciation in exchange rate from N520/$ as at 20 February 2017 to N362/$ as at 17th August 2017.
He also listed some of the various impactful programmes of the Administration as including the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, which today feeds 3,065,000 pupils in 14 states of the Federation pupils and has employed 36,000 Cooks across the country; the Conditional Cash Transfer that has seen about over 30,000 households benefit from the N5,000 monthly stipend; the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme under which about 120,000 people have benefited from the cooperative loans; and the N-power that has employed 200,000 people.
He said the high food prices are being addressed with appropriate monetary, fiscal and trade policies, as stated in the ERGP.
Alhaji Mohammed reiterated his earlier statement that the purveyors of hate speech, fake news and disinformation are working hard to obliterate the glaring achievements of the Administration.
''To naysayers, these positive developments do not constitute news. That's why they make up their own fake news, and engage in disinformation and hate speech. They believe that by seeking to overwhelm the polity with fake news, disinformation and hate speech, they can easily obliterate the glaring achievements of the Buhari Administration. We must not allow them to dominate the media space,'' he said.

'Your wife was a sex slave who had 6 abortions' - Yung6six's official DJ, Timmy blasts Akpororo

And the beef goes on....
Recall that few days ago, rapper Yung6ix called out comedian Akpororo after he made a joke about him at a concert in Ilorin saying that he should have used the 3.9million he spent on drinks at a night club  to buy a hit song as he has none.
Yung6ix's DJ, Baddest DJTimmy has also joined in the beef. He went ballistic on Akpororo and his wife on Instagram. He made videos calling out Akpororo saying his wife and mother of his child was a sex slave and had aborted six times for PD, a dancer. He also said Akpororo begged to marry her and advised him to get a paternity test done as his child may  be someone else's.

EFCC denies investigating the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen

Read the press statement from EFCC below...
The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been drawn to a story entitled, CJN, Okonjo-Iweala, Fayemi, Fayose, Others Under Probe- EFCC, which appeared in The Punch Newspaper of today Wednesday September 6, 2017 regarding a list of high profile persons, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Kayode Fayemi and Justice Abdu Kafarati of the Federal High Court, who are said to be currently under investigation by the Commission.
According to the newspaper, “The list, sighted by one of our correspondents via an EFCC source on Monday, was recently sent by the anti-graft agency to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), based on request.
It is important to state that this report did not emanate from the EFCC and the allusion to “an EFCC source” is diversionary and mischievous.
For the avoidance of doubt, cases under investigation communicated to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation by the Commission are classified information and it is troubling how such would be leaked to the media.
The mastermind of this leak is out to create disaffection between the Commission and, particularly, the Judiciary. The Commission wishes to state categorically that it is currently not investigating Justices Onnoghen and Kafarati.
While Onnoghen was being considered for his present position, the Commission received some petitions which were investigated and found to be without merit and discarded.
Indeed, much damage has been done to the Commission’s investigation activities by this leak especially as some of the cases mentioned are still at preliminary stages of investigation.

Mo Abudu goes back to school

One of Nollywood’s most successful producers finds time to hone her filmmaking skills while steering multiple projects.
Mo Abudu, executive producer of Fifty and The Wedding Party, recently completed an intensive 3-week course for directors at the London Film School.
Coming in the midst of a whirlwind period of production and promotion of two movies, The Wedding Party 2 (with the ELFIKE Film Collective) and The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, the passionate creative was determined to carve out time for learning. “This is an incredibly busy year at EbonyLife, with several series launches on our TV channel, two new films and several other projects in pre-production. However, I felt that it was really important to continue my growth as a filmmaker, with a view to directing my first feature in the near future.”
The course explored the fundamentals of filmmaking from script to screen, and is based on an exercise originally devised by FAMU, the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Czech Republic. According to Ms. Abudu, “The course was very practical and covered scriptwriting, visual language, choosing locations, working with actors, shooting, editing and post production. One critical area of learning for me was mise-en-scène - the arrangement of everything that appears in the frame – actors, lighting, décor, props and costumes.”
Mo Abudu gets behind the camera to direct filming of her short story, written while on the course.
“Luckily, we had a great course leader, Udayan Prasad, the director of The Yellow Handkerchief (2008), a critically acclaimed independent film, starring Oscar-winner William Hurt, which was a remake of a Japanese classic of the same name. One of Udayan's favourite sayings is, ‘It all begins and ends with the story’, something that I truly believe in,” says Mo Abudu.
With a slate of new movie releases scheduled for 2018-19, Mo can’t wait to get started. “I have learned so much over the last few weeks and I am really looking forward to putting all of it into practice very soon.”

The world premiere of The Royal Hibiscus Hotel (RHH) takes place on Saturday, 9th September 2017 at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Executive Producer, Mo Abudu will be joined by Director, Ishaya Bako and the cast, including Zainab Balogun, Kenneth Okolie, Rachel Oniga, Jide Kosoko, Deyemi Okanlawon, OC Ukejie, Lala Akindoju and Toni Tones. RHH has been highlighted by TIFF as a ‘Hidden Gem’, a film worth viewing by audiences at the festival.

Actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, shares his throwback photo as he remembers life in Nigeria in 1985

He shared the photo on his IG page and wrote
"Throw back to 1985 in Enugu, Kanayo O. Kanayo in the state of nature, when the falcon could hear the falconer . Then you could walk into a shop, and the owner is not in sight, you pick up the things you need and keep the money on the table. About the same year I visited Gembu in the present day Taraba State, then in Gongola State, no one cared much about ethnic, religious belongings. Music was philosophical in its renditions and futuristic in outlook. Eg Fela's 49 seating 99 standing, suffering and smiling". I am not advocating we go back to those years of yore BUT a people are nothing when they loose all their values and culture".

Hurricane Irma: Puerto Rico set to be hit by what has been described as a very powerful hurricane

Ricardo Rosselló, governor of Puerto Rico, has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard in preparation for terrible storm set to hit the Island. The storm, packing winds of 185 miles (300 kilometers) per hour, is considered potentially catastrophic for this island of 3.5 million US citizens.
Strong winds expected can level wooden frame homes, topple trees and knock out power, while heavy rain can cause mudslides and other potentially catastrophic damage.
Governor Rossello has also ordered shelters opened, urging residents to pay attention to those in need of special help, especially senior citizens.
“We are hoping for the best but of course preparing for the worst. This is a category 5 hurricane unlike has never been seen before, so although we hope that the trajectory continues up northwards, we are preparing for the worst. Keeping people safe is our main objective.”
“Flooding is a main concern. We just saw with Harvey how the main cause of death was essentially flooding ... The second area of concern is wind. Category five winds are really aggressive, it is essentially the speed of an airplane taking off. These are very strong winds that we are talking about, something that we have never experienced here in Puerto Rico.”

Barrack Obama hits out at Trump for rescinding DACA, calls move "cruel"

Former President Barack Obama has slammed President Donald Trump's decision to rescind an immigration order that protects some children of undocumented immigrants from deportation.
In a statement released on Tuesday shortly after President Donald Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions made the announcement, Obama called the move "cruel" and "self-defeating."
Obama criticized his successor in the statement released on Facebook, though he did not mention him by name. The former president insisted that the move to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program was not legally required.
Obama wrote in the lengthy post: "To target these young people is wrong -- because they have done nothing wrong. It is self-defeating -- because they want to start new businesses, staff our labs, serve in our military, and otherwise contribute to the country we love. And it is cruel."
He added: "It's a political decision, and a moral question. Whatever concerns or complaints Americans may have about immigration in general, we shouldn't threaten the future of this group of young people who are here through no fault of their own, who pose no threat, who are not taking away anything from the rest of us."
It is now up to Congress to determine a legislative future for the program, and Obama said he hoped lawmakers pass a bill allowing those eligible for the DACA program to remain in the United States. He framed the decision as a question of "basic decency."
He wrote: "This is about whether we are a people who kick hopeful young strivers out of America, or whether we treat them the way we'd want our own kids to be treated. It's about who we are as a people -- and who we want to be."
Former President Bill Clinton joined Obama in calling Trump's decision "cruel." He called on Congress to act immediately to "protect their status and pave the way for their future and America's future."
Clinton said in a statement on Tuesday: "It's wrong because it's bad policy that solves no pressing problem and raises new ones. It's wrong because it's irresponsible, passing the buck instead of offering sensible solutions for immigration reform. Most of all, it's wrong because it's cruel to send these young people to places many of them have never lived and do not know. For them this is home. The United States is their home."
Former Vice President Joe Biden also criticized Trump's move on Twitter.
"Brought by parents, these children had no choice in coming here. Now they'll be sent to countries they've never known. Cruel. Not America," Biden tweeted.
