Three INEC officials arraigned for N111.6 million money laundering in Enugu State

Three INEC officials arraigned for?N111.6 million money laundering in Enugu State

The Enugu Zonal office of EFCC on Friday May 25, 2018 arraigned three serving and former officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Imo State.

The accused are: Igwe Chukwuemeka, the former Chief Administrative Officer; Irokwu Uma Okorie, a serving Administrative Secretary of the same office and an Accountant during the 2015 general election in the state INEC; Onyema Onyebuchi.

They were arraigned before Justice Lewis Alagoa of Federal High Court, Owerri, Imo State on a three -count charge of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of N11,660,000 (Eleven Million, Six Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira).

The arraignment of the trio was sequel to their roles in the collection and distribution of funds released by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources under Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Mrs. Alisson Madueke to some INEC officials during the 2015 general election.

Investigations revealed that the returning officers and local government collection officers in the state were each paid, N500.000 while those at the wards were each paid N250,000.

The money was received by Igwe Chukwuemeka and Irokwe Uma Okorie on the directive of a memo from INEC headquarters that a Non Governmental Organisation, West African Network of Election Observers (WANEO) disbursed the funds through Fidelity bank on the instruction of Madueke.

They all pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them. Thereafter, prosecution counsel H.O Anasoh with Onome Umukoro, asked the court for a trial date stating they were ready for trial. But Prince N.K Iheme, Mike Onyekachi and S.I. Azuanu, counsel to first, second and third defendants respectively all moved for motion for bail for their clients.

As there was no objection from the prosecution team, the trial Judge granted the defendants bail in the sum of N150 million each with one surety in like sum. The surety who must be resident must have landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case to September 24,25, 26 2018 for trial.

Lagos State High Court fix June 26 to rule on billionaire kidnapper, Evans' case

Lagos State High Court?fix June 26 to rule on?billionaire kidnapper, Evans

Lagos Division of the Lagos State High Court has fixed June 26 to rule on an application brought by alleged billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (popularly known as Evans), to quash the criminal charges brought against him.

The judge, A. Akintoye fixed the date after overruling an earlier application by Evans that the charges constituted an abuse of court processes. According to Olukoya Ogungbeje, counsel to Evans, similar charges had been instituted against his client in other courts by the Lagos State Government. He said the charges were grossly defective, repetitive and an abuse of court processes.

Relying on Section 153 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law ( ACJL ) of Lagos State, Mr Ogungbeje added that nothing stopped the prosecution from bringing the charges under one judge pointing out that counts three, four and five of the charges were repetitions of the same offence.
“Apart from the counts being of the same offence, the same section of the law is being provided in these counts. I submit that the prosecution misfired by bringing different charges and instituting the same case in different courts. I urge your lordship to quash the charge because it is defective and an abuse of court process” he said.
In response, the prosecuting counsel, Titilayo Shitta-Bey, said the general rule is that every offence must be in a separate count. “It will be against the provisions of the law to lump the two offences in one count,” she added. She said the first defendant, Evans, was charged with attempt to murder one James Uduji in count three, while in count four, he was charged with attempt to murder Donald Nwoye.

She also said that other charges filed against the first defendant in other courts involved other defendants and different charges. She, therefore, urged the court to dismiss the application. Counsel to the second defendant urged the court to dismiss the charges against Linus Okpara, his client, stating that no prima facie had been established against him. Jude Igbanoi, counsel to the third defendant, said, “I will align myself with the arguments made by the first defendant. I urge this honourable court to quash the charge, there is nothing in the proof of evidence linking the third defendant to the charge."

In response, however, Ms Shitta-Bey said the proof of evidence disclosed a prima facie case against Mr Okpara.  She said the proof of evidence disclosed where the third defendant admitted collecting N2 million for the first defendant in relation to one of the victims, Uche Okoroafor. She, therefore, urging the court to dismiss the argument of the third defendant.

The case was adjourned to June 26 for a ruling by the judge. Evans is charged alongside Joseph Emeka, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba in a fresh two count charge bordering on conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping and attempted murder In the second charge, Evans is being tried alongside Joseph Emeka, Linus Okpara and Victor Aduba in a three-count charge before the same judge  Evans is also facing trial before Hakeem Oshodi and Oluwatoyin Taiwo, judges at the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State High Court.

Blac Chyna now alleges that the Kardashians threatened to remove KUWTK from E! if her show wasn't cancelled

Blac Chyna now alleges that the Kardashians threatened to remove KUWTK from E! if her show wasn

Breaking up with Rob + filing a restraining order against him appears to still haunt Blac Chyna and she's blaming her mistakes on the Kardashians.
Chyna, who has now lost the relevancy she had after becoming pregnant for Rob and secured a reality show on E! entertainment, is alleging that the Kardashians played dirty moves to blacklist her. Read TMZ's report below.
Blac Chyna claims the Kardashian family got her show "Rob & Chyna" canceled by making secret threats to E! that they would yank "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and take it somewhere else ... this according to new documents filed by Chyna.
The documents essentially claim a conspiracy to keep Chyna in the dark as to why her show was canceled. Chyna claims season 1 of her show with Rob actually did better than "KUWTK" ... so much so, scenes were already being shot for season 2.
Chyna claims the boom fell in January 2017 where a "key meeting" took place between E! executives and the Kardashian family. Chyna alleges a contributing reason, at the very least, as to why her show got the ax, was because the Kardashians "falsely claimed" she was being physically abusive toward Rob.
Chyna wants what she believes is a paper trail that would establish the alleged conspiracy. The Kardashians have said all along the show was canceled because the ratings were not good and Chyna got a restraining order preventing Rob from coming near her ... thus making a television show impossible.

'Doctors removed 12 Fibroids from me on the 3rd of April' - Toke Makinwa writes on her road to recovery

Media personality, Toke Makinwa says during her struggle with fibroid, she removed 12 of them from her womb.

Toke made the revelation as she talked about how scared some people might be of going under the knife but advised them to brave up.

According to her, '12 was the number of Fibroids I had taken out of me on the 3rd of April. Since I opened up about my surgery I have had so many people reach out to me with various questions, I have also read from so many people who have gone through the same procedure. It’s such a crazy experience, I don’t wish it on anyone. My road to recovery has been one of grace and I’m thankful for it all. God has really just done the most'.
Thank you all for the prayers, the lovely messages, they kept me going. I know a lot of people are scared of surgery and most importantly scared of getting surgery of any kind done back home in Nigeria. I was one of them, It took me years to brave up, I managed and managed and things were not getting better, I’ll meet with my doctor, schedule an appointment and run away.

Please note, not all cases of fibroids require surgery, it’s quite popular among black women and if it doesn’t bother you, if it’s not obstructing anything pls don’t go the surgery route. I’m not a doctor, I only share my experience to help anyone out there dealing with it, first thing is to see your doctor, I’ve been asked questions like is it safe? It is only God that can guarantee our safety, but the good people at South Shore Women’s clinic where I got my surgery done did an excellent job.

Dr Alabi and his team were not only safe, the after care I received was amazing too. I have decided to support one lucky female dealing with this ailment, I wish I could do more but I’m comforted knowing there will be #1lesswoman dealing with issues of fibroids so if you know anyone who desperately needs the surgery and for some reason can not afford to get it done, pls send us an email -Tokemakinwa@gmail.com

I believe that there is good even in negative situations, find the light and live it.

24 passengers narrowly survive as two boats capsize in Lagos

24 passengers narrowly survive as two boats capsize in Lagos

At least 24 passengers escaped death on Friday evening when two boats collided and capsized in the Ojo area of Lagos State.

The accident which occurred at about 7:45pm close to the Ojo Terminal involved two open fiber boats. Managing Director of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Damilola Emmanuel, who confirmed the incident, said one of the boats was driving at full capacity with 22 passengers, while the other had just the boat captain and deckhand on board.

He said immediately the incident occurred, the patrol team at the Ojo Terminal was able to move swiftly to rescue the situation. “One boat was going from Liverpool to Ojo while the other was doing a return trip from same location. LASWA response team were able to rescue all passengers from the capsized boat and transported them to shore, no lives were lost,”

He said the affected boats (Toba Marine & Eco Lima) are presently in the custody of LASWA at the terminal until conclusion of investigations into what led to the collision.  Emmanuel attributed the success of rescuing all passengers alive to the fact that they were all putting on life jackets, which according to him also made rescue efforts a lot easier.

“All passengers on both boats were all putting on their life jackets. This is what we have been encouraging. Our agency has been on the forefront of leading the campaign that for no reason should anyone embark on a journey on water without putting on a life jacket. We have also gone a step further to distribute life jackets to encourage boat operators to enforce it,” the LASWA boss said.

He said the 1,500 life jackets were distributed within 2017 and January 2018, adding that more would be distributed in the course of the year.

''Nigeria has never had a more transparent, more accountable government than the Buhari Administration'' Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has urged the global anti-corruption body Transparency International (TI) to support, rather than condemn, the Buhari Administration's fight against corruption.
''Nigeria has never had a more transparent, more accountable government than the Buhari Administration,'' the Minister said when he received a TI delegation, led by the Chair of the body's International Board, Delia Ferreira Rubio, in Abuja on Friday.
''As a policy, this government is the most committed to fighting corruption. We need your support in the area of advocacy and capacity building,'' he said.
Alhaji Mohammed said TI and the local civil society organizations affiliated to it have not offered the necessary support to the Administration, adding: ''They look at the actions of an aberrant few to condemn the government.''
He said when the government disclosed that just 55 people stole 1.34 trillion naira between 2006 and 2013, and when it published the list
of looters, in response to a challenge from the opposition, a section of the civil society was busy parroting the cliche that the allegations were one-sided, instead of supporting the government's action.
The Minister also tasked TI and its affiliates to show more understanding for the sociological complexities of fighting corruption in Nigeria, especially because it operates a federal system of government under which the federal government has no control over the actions of the federating states.
He said the Administration is not just fighting corruption with laws and prosecution, but also with education and inclusiveness in government, citing the government's 'Change Begins With Me' programme as an example of efforts being made to achieve attitudinal change among the citizenry.
Alhaji Mohammed said Nigeria is succeeding in its anti-corruption fight because the fight is being led by a President whose integrity is
beyond reproach noting: ''Even his worst critics won't say he indulges in or encourages corruption.''
He said corrupt persons are using looted funds to mount a virulous campaign against the administration, especially in the social media, because they know that the re-election of the President will spell doom for them.
For her part, the TI global chair said she decided to visit Nigeria, her first-ever visit to Africa, because the country can set the tone
for the continent in the fight against corruption.
Ms Ferreira Rubio said TI's mandate is to offer support through civil society organizations and the private sector to foster the fight against corruption.
She said while the government is doing a lot to fight corruption, it should ensure more transparency and more efficiency in service delivery.
''We are not an opposition anywhere in the world. We are just an NGO working in over 100 countries of the world. We are not enemies. We are here to help,'' she said.
